Castle/Beckett, no spoilers, nothing explicit, 200 words. Enjoy!
She had been eyeing it all night: that little green sprig of troublesome mistletoe. She carefully avoided it, being sure not to venture anywhere near it. Knowing their friends, she suspected there might be a conspiracy to try and trick her and Castle into standing beneath it. Truth be told, she was a little afraid of what might happen and what she might feel if he kissed her. A public spectacle wasn't what she had in mind for their first kiss… though she supposed she shouldn't be thinking about a first kiss at all.
It was getting late and the party was winding down when Castle approached her with an unreadable expression. "Come here, I want to show you something."
Wordlessly she followed him down the hall to his study until they were standing in the centre of the room.
"What did you want to show me?"
He looked upwards and she followed his gaze, her sights setting on the mistletoe carefully hung with a red ribbon.
"Oh." Good one Kate, she scolded herself, great detective work there.
And then his lips pressed against hers and she began to reconsider her earlier sentiment; maybe mistletoe wasn't so bad after all.
