About Time

Draco Malfoy's marriage to Astoria Greengrass had been nothing but a necessity. Two years after the war, their parents had arranged their marriage. They had gone on dates, gotten engaged and then married within six months. He hadn't had much say in any of the events, not because he hadn't been allowed but simply because he had held no interest. The war had changed him, but nobody understood that.

That didn't mean Draco was completely withdrawn from his wife though. Astoria was a beautiful woman. She was tall, dark-haired with blazing brown eyes. She also had something royal about her- she was a proper lady. He was attracted to her, certainly, but did he love her? That was the question.

Their kisses were just kisses.

Their touches didn't hold meaning.

Their laughter was momentary.

Their happiness wasn't real.

At least, for him, it was like that.

But it changed, oh it did.

It was at a Christmas party that his family had held. All his old acquaintances had made an appearance. Draco had once again been forced to be cordial with them. For all he cared, they could go to hell. But even now, he had to keep up his family name. Of course, it was only with them that it held any esteem.

He had been socializing, or rather, pretending to listen to Theodore Nott talk when he realized that he was being made the butt end of Theo's spiteful jokes. He almost rolled his eyes, and tried to ignore him. But apparently, his wife wasn't just going to keep quiet. She stood up for him, answering Theo back in his own language. Draco was taken by surprise at her spontaneity. He watched her in admiration while hiding his smirk at Theo's gaping mouth. Her face was lit up and her eyes held a fire that he had never seen. And yet she wasn't being rude openly, she was Theo's hostess after all.

Theo had started to look angry, but there was also desire in his eyes that Draco didn't like…at all. Once their discussion had ended, he whisked her away for a dance. Her eyes betrayed her surprise, but she looked pleased nonetheless. It felt like he was paying attention to her for the first time. Placing a hand on her waist, he felt butterflies in the pits of his stomach. Was he, Draco Malfoy, nervous?

For the first time since they were together, he felt something for the woman in his hands. As he looked into her eyes, he knew she felt it too. He leaned down, to place a kiss on her lips. He didn't do it because he had to. He did it because he wanted to. Astoria's response simply made his heart thud faster.

"I love you," he whispered to her, exhilarated.

"I know," she replied, a glint in her eye.

He simply chuckled; he felt a strange emotion creep into him.

He realized that it was happiness…something he hadn't felt in a very long time.

AN: Yes, I ship Dramione, but I can't help but think Astoria is perfect for Draco too. Oh well, this is a result of those thoughts. Hope you liked it. =)

Thank you in-dreams-maybe for editing this for me! =)
