The Ring

Sherlock observed The Woman lying beside him, their limbs tangled in bedsheets of the hotel room they were staying in Casablanca, Morocco. No matter how many times he saw her, touched her, talked to her, he could never figure her out, never deduce her completely. She was a mystery, a puzzle, one which he wasn't able to solve. Even when they were just lying there, on the bed, enjoying the afterglow of their passionate love making, he couldn't deduce her. It was annoying.

This time the object of his interest was a ring. The 5 carat diamond mounted in 9K white gold, resting fiercely, shining with pride on her mistress's hand. She never took it off, she even wore when she bathed He idly ran a thumb over it, inspecting it.

"Wondering where it came from, Mr. Holmes..?" The Woman asked

"As a matter of fact, yes, Ms. Adler" he replied.

"Deduce it.." she challenged.

" The Royal Classic Pear Ring. 5 carat centre stone, encrusted in 9K white gold, probably by Harry Winston. Very rare. Given to you by probably your father, a father figure or a former lover." He couldn't help but feel a tinge of jealousy as he said the last two words.

"I'm impressed Mr. Holmes.." she said, truly proud of her lover. Sherlock smirked, he had always felt pride when she praised him.

"And yes, this ring was given to me by my father before he died. He spent all his money for this ring. Money he earned by wiping tables, by sweeping the floors of hospitals, offices, schools. All that effort just because I once said that I wish I had something so beautiful. Do you know what he said when he gave it to me..?" she said as she she looked up at him, her eyes holding a small amount of sadness in them. He looked at her with intrigue, urging her to go on.

"He said that, this diamond is just a small fraction of how much I love you, of how much I want to keep you happy. And promise me Irene, you will only marry a man who gives a bigger diamond than this, because that man will love you more than I do.." she said, tiny tears forming into her eyes.

"I see. Do you think that, any man can love you more than he did..?" he asked.

"A woman has only two men in her life who can love her more than her father, Mr. Holmes." She said. "Her husband, and her son. I won't, can't have any husband. Son is just a dream I can't fathom coming true." She said, as she bit back her tears and a small sad smirk forming on her beautiful face.

"Now, let's continue from where we left of, shall we, Mr. Holmes..?" she said, as she straddled him.

"Yes please, Ms. Adler.." he said giving into her wild thoughts once more.

Little did she know, that her clever detective in the funny hat would soon be asking his best friend to take him to the jewellery store where he purchased the ring for his wife, and to see if they sold rings with diamonds, bigger than 5 carat.

I do not own anything…
