A/N: So this has taken too long to upload. I've had it in a folder for months now, but here it is. Just a Johnlock one-shot. Post-Reichenbach, pre-Empty Hearse. As ever, I own nothing. All rights to their respective owners.
Sherlock's laptop beeps and he jolts out of bed. Running to it, he sees that the motion sensor he'd imbedded in his tombstone has picked up movement. Sherlock pressed a key to switch to the video camera, and another to start recording. When he saw John, his heart skipped a beat. "It's been 6 months, Sherlock. 6 months." Sherlock knows. Each month feels like a year. "I know you're probably off solving some afterlife crime, but I thought you'd like to know what we're all up to." Alarmingly, Sherlock's mind has closed down; all he can think is how happy he is to see John, even though happiness is detrimental to brainwork. "I moved in with Mrs Hudson," John continues. "My therapist decided there was too much of a risk of my killing myself if I lived alone. And it was tempting, Sherlock. I had nothing to live for." Had, Sherlock thinks. Implies he found something. Good. "There were so many times when it would've been easier just to die." So what turned you around? "But then I met Mary. We've been dating for 2 months or so, and I like her, I really do. She's given me a reason to live. And so the real reason I'm here is to end this; to end us. Because we had something, Sherlock. I don't, and never will, know if you felt the same, but I loved you. You were my best friend, and I loved you. But… you're dead. And so I came to give this… us… the ending it deserves. We had a good run." And Sherlock watches his best friend wipe away unfallen tears, turn slowly, and leave the graveyard.
Many people have said Sherlock Holmes has no heart, but here's proof they were wrong. Because Sherlock's heart belongs to John Watson – and its breaking.
