Where will you go now,
now that life has faded?
Where will you go now,
now that all life is jaded?
The silence draws closer,
it fills your ears.
The silence of death,
at the end of all these years.
But here you come,
light in the dark.
You are my light,
my golden spark.
Coming back for me,
after you were lost.
But you were never lost,
just paying time's cost.
And here I am,
my arms open wide,
waiting no more,
for the one fate's string tied.
Amy Rose stared out the window of her small cottage, the brilliance of the setting sun glaring harshly off the glass, making her squint her eyes. It had been a cold day, and resting her gloved hand on the pane pulled a chill through it and into the thick material, turning her hands to ice.
The glowing warmth of the fire drew her back into the room, her hand leaving almost invisible streaks on the window as she drug it across to brush against a long piece of brown cloth hanging on a hook nearby. She lingered a moment, watching as if the scarf would suddenly come to life and lead her through the cold outside and to one who would keep her warmer than the fiercest fire.
"Sonic." His name came out in a whisper, one long unspoken.
It had been a long ten years since she had seen him, and the last had been a quick glimpse of happiness right before she stepped into the portal to return to their world. Everyone had waited on the other side expecting him to appear at any moment, and for weeks after, Tails had searched the world for him in his plane while Amy had resolved to wait.
And so she had. All these years she had waited, never giving up the thought of him. Never accepting what others had said. That he was gone, and he was never coming back. That she needed to move on with her own life. Of course, Tails understood and believed that Sonic would return, but it was different for him. Sonic wasn't the center of his universe, even if they were like brothers.
Everyone else had grown up and moved on. Some were starting families, like Tails and Cream, ready to get married soon. Others going alone, like Knuckles and Rouge, content to mess with each other as they always had but not the type to settle down. Amy tried her best to fit into the second group, even as she dreamed of the first. She had rejected the suitors, thrown away the flowers. She stayed here, surrounded by friends, the same as before. Sonic was the only one. So she waited for him, keeping the scarf by her door just in case he came back one of these winters, shivering in the cold.
She rubbed her hands together, reaching out towards the fire that filled the room with a golden light. A bite to her lip, as the memories were invading her mind, kept the tears at bay. She took deep breaths to calm herself and sat down, pulling a blanket from the back of her chair to curl up under. Heat invaded her body, making her relax followed, eventually, by blissful sleep.
She awoke some time later to find the room flooded with a golden light, but it was strange. She blinked sleep from her eyes and looked around. The fire had gone out some time ago, the ashes no longer glowing. And the light was coming from behind her.
Gulping hard, and unconsciously holding her breath, she peeked over the back of her couch and out the window. The golden light was fading now, but she could see a streak of gold across the sky like a shooting star too close to earth.
Amy slipped from beneath the blanket and made her way cautiously to the window, tiptoeing as if she feared to wake someone. She undid the clasp and slid the window up, letting out her breath as the cold wind hit her.
The streak of gold suddenly turned, veering out of sight so that all she could make out was a faint glow in the sky from around the corner of her house.
Her mind started working, dozens of thoughts cycling through her, all revolving around one. "Is it-?" She couldn't get herself to finish the thought, and stood, hands above her on the open window, goosebumps spread across her arms. "But maybe it is."
She lunged from the window, grabbing her coat and throwing it on, not bothering with the buttons. She paused by the hook, her hand hovering over the simple scarf. What if it wasn't? Could she stand to be disappointed again?
Seconds ticked by, and finally she banished the thought, wrapping her fist around the brown cloth, throwing it around her own neck as she opened the door. She had decided that she would wait forever, no matter how many disappointments and false hopes she had to live through.
The dawn light was just peeking through the trees making the world seem as if it were both glowing and about to be swallowed up by the darkness. Amy ran down her sidewalk to the dirt road that extended through the countryside, and looked up at the sky. Spinning in a circle, her hand clenched in the folds of her scarf, she searched frantically for the gold light or the tail it had left behind. But now with the sky lighting up from the rising sun, no streak of gold was visible.
The sky was empty.
Disappointment was always quick to come, and this time the tears wouldn't be stopped. The world blurred even as it kept spinning, her feet unaware of the thoughts in her head.
"If you keep spinning like that, you'll make yourself sick."
She froze at the cocky voice, exactly how she remembered it.
And there he was, standing on the road just a few yards away watching her, looking exactly how he did the last time she had seen him. She turned, and now it was his turn to be surprised.
"Amy? Is-Is that really you?"
She couldn't speak, and collapsed to her knees, the tears pouring renewed from her eyes, chilling her face as the frozen ground chilled her knees.
"Amy!" Sonic dashed forward, stopping right in front of her and bent to his knees as well. "Are you alright?"
"I w-w-waited for-" Amy gasped out between sobs. "f-for such a l-long t-time!" Sonic stayed quiet and Amy struggled to continue. "I t-told myself that I would wait for you. F-for as long as it took. E-even if I had to wait until I was an old lady, I w-would still wait f-for you. And I did, Sonic. I w-waited for t-ten years for you, and now I can't believe you're actually here."
Sonic had begun to smile at this, but it disappeared as she finished. "Wait! Ten years?"
Amy looked up at him through blurred eyes, and nodded, the lump in her throat preventing her from speaking.
"But in Chris's world-! I mean, it's only taken me a few months to collect the chaos emeralds again!"
Amy let out a pained laugh. "A...few months. That's it? And now I'm like ten years older then you?"
Sonic smirked. "Actually you were a few years younger than me before."
This time Amy's laugh didn't hurt so much as her brain nearly closed down, her mouth taking over. "I'm still so much older. And now you probably don't even want me anymore. To have some older woman chasing after you all the ti-!"
She was cut off as he leaned forward and wrapped his arms around her, his gloved hands resting on the small of her back as he drew her in close. Her arms hung limply at her sides as he whispered into her ear. "Don't talk like that Amy. Just because you're older doesn't mean that you're not the same Amy I knew before." She relaxed, slumping against him and letting her head rest against his shoulder. His arms tightened, and Amy felt what she thought was a tear fall onto her quills. "And don't worry, Amy. I'm never going to leave you again."
Amy smiled, thinking that if she had any tears left, that she would be crying her eyes out. He would never leave her! She pushed back from him slightly and took the end of her scarf and wrapped it around the two of them, tying them together. He smiled at her, pulling her in close again, and pressed his lips to hers.
Ten years she had waited, and while the reunion wasn't exactly how Amy had hoped, she couldn't have been happier to finally have her hero back again.
She felt so warm.
Hey hey guys, long time no see! I haven't really worked on anything the last few months (I did however get to go to my first anime convention) but I finally wrote something! Woohoo!
I've been really into Sonic the last few days and after writing the first part of the poem up at the top, I got inspired to do a Sonic story (This is not necessarily the one I intended to write but oh well). Also, I poured all the cheese on this one...YAY!
So anyway this one would basically be a kind of different ending to episode 52 of Sonic X, if it had taken longer for Sonic to get back, like if he had lost the Chaos Emeralds after the portal was closed by Chris, as well as if the time difference for the two dimensions were switched as the time difference is shown at the beginning of I believe season 3 of Sonic X.
Agh how dare I mess with one of the best Sonamy moments of all time, right? It's ok it's still romantic, just kinda sad and this is what I came up with after reading a Shadamy story. (that doesn't make any sense)
Oh, and as an update for my account and such, I am going to try to write another chapter for "Sweater Weather" soon, but I have to start from scratch as has deleted the start I had.
Also, I want to try starting another longer ongoing story because I do better with a lot of multitasking to keep my attention.
And so I hope you enjoyed this little one-shot I have created and enough babbling from me! Please leave a review! And I love you guys!
