Chapter One: Kirito

I met Kirito a few days before I met Asuna. Actually, I had met Kirito in the game a few days before Asuna. I had known Kirito in the real world, known him since I was 5. We were best friends. That's why I knew that his real name was Kazuto Kirigaya, and he knew mine was Asami Akiyama. We had both been beta testers. I had met Kirito on Floor 33 late at night. It must have been about 10:00 pm. I knew anything could happen at night, but I still couldn't help exploring and marveling about the fact that this was a game. That was when I saw him.

"K-Kazuto?"

"Akiko? You have the game too?"

"Of course!"

"This you hear GM's message?"

"Yes. It's crazy. If you die in the game, you die...in real life."

"I know."

"Yes. That's why I-no, we-have to survive. For the people. This game...it's crazy. There's no avoiding this one."

"That's true. First, friend me in the game-just in case."

I smirked at him."Just in case, huh? Ok, whatever you say..."

After he accepted my request, we walked for a bit.

"So...I hear you're a solo player."

"Yeah."

"So am I. We can be solo players together."

"Technically, that's-"

"Yeah, yeah, impossible. I know, genius."

We walked in silence.

"You hungry?"

Kirito looked up. "Eh...I could eat."

"Of course you could. What are you feeling for?"

"Hm...chef's choice."

"I'm not sure; I'll make a sandwich for you."

"Ok."

"C'mon let's go to my place."

We got there and immediately I started making the sandwiches. When I was finished, I gave one to Kirito.

"This tastes as good as Asuna's sandwiches."

"Asuna?"

Kirito looked up from his sandwich. "Hm?"

"You said Asuna. Who's that?"

"Ahh, she is a member of the Knights of the Blood Oath."

"And...you're not?"

"No..."

I sat in my seat and took another bite of my sandwich.

"Uh...Kirito?"

"Yes?"

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Mm hm..."

"Uh...If you had a crush on one of your best friends, but they don't know it yet, how would you go about it?"

"Er...anyone in particular?"

"No, no...just wondering."

"Well, I would just enjoy being their friend...and make the most of my time with them."

"Yeah. Good advice."

Kirito looked down at the floor as he finished his sandwich. I got up to drink some water when I heard him say, "Akiko?"

"Hm?"

"Uh...if your crush just got SAO, but your best friend also has it, and you want to go out with your crush on the game, and you are also starting to like one of your best friends and are having second thoughts, what would you do?"

I smiled. "So Akira got the game?"

"Yes! Er...NO! That is not what I'm saying! At all!"

My smile was now a smirk and I stood in front of Kirito with my arms crossed and a skeptical look on my face."

"Mmm hmmm...'cause that sounded pretty specific to me. I'm not sure which one of your best friends your talking about, but I know who your crush is, so I'm guessing Akira got the game."

"Ok..maybe she did, maybe she didn't. I was not watching her, so I don't know."

Kirito turned around and crossed his arms.

"Riiiiight..."
