An officer shakes me awake. I look up, and see my brother, Tristan, crying. Tristin is only ten, five years younger than me. I run to him.
"Hey Tristan, what's wrong?" I brush away his tears. He shakes his head. I look back at the officer. The officer doesn't move, or say anything.
"You took the test, Riley. You passed it. But your score is higher than... everyone." Tristin says. He's never talked like that before. The test? What test? "You have to go. Hopefully I'll see you soon." The officer grabs my shoulders. He takes me through a door, down a hall, through another door, then stops. There's a tunnel that slides downward, like a slide. I know what this is. My parents called this the Chute. I start to slide into it. I look back and see the officer. The officer waves a goodbye. I slide down. It's better to be down here than up there. The officer knows that. Even though I'm going to a somewhat prison, it's okay. I'll actually have more freedom there.
I arrive.
