She can feel it, the tension building. Something big is happening, something life changing. Life threatening.
They're going to raise the city soon, and though she can use the sleep all she can do is pace. She wonders the halls, not knowing what she's looking for. Comfort? Solice? Something to make her forget.
Something to dull the nagging feeling that this wasn't going to end well.
She found herself at Rodneys lab. He was alone; the other scientists were busy elsewhere, planning and preping.
Like most nights, he seemed to know she was there. In an instant his work was dropped, and stopped.
Then they were tofgether, only inches apart, hands ghosting over the other, afraid to touch, afraid not to. The silence is deafening, the words not spoken fill the air. Lust and need and everything in between, untill there wasn't anything left to say.
They want much, so much, but there isn't time, there's never time, and she can't be seen with him. Not like this. She's in charge and she can't risk it, risk everything, for this. He knows, accepts; he can't risk either, but there is no other time, there may never again be the time to assess the risks, weigh the options.
Finally, skin meets skin and the illusion of rules and regulations are gone. A kiss, chaste and sweet and oh so beautiful. All the heartbreak, all the sorrow. The love, the loss, held in one kiss.
It ends all too soon, and they fall into each others arm. A tear falls down her cheek and he sighs, memorising this moment, keeping it above all else. Because he can feel it too. Something big, bigger than anything else every is going to happen, and as much as they'd like it to, time will not wait.
