As I Walk Along

As I walk along the road to heaven

I stop to pause and think

Of all those times

Sadness and pain

Glory and joy

When did they ever happen?

Glory and joy

When I was a small, innocent child

Unaware of the world's guilt

Sadness and pain

When I was older

When I knew more than the world will and has ever known

When I knew the Yeerks

I . . . fought against them

But we were losing

And by some miraculous twist of fate

We won

Yet we lost much in the winning

We lost our childhood

Our ability to laugh in glee

To enjoy the world the way we should

Not knowing, or caring, of what lay underneath

To trust unquestioningly

Without a second glance

We lost and won

For the price of one

And now I stop to ask myself

What have I done in my life?

I . . . died

When I was but a child

I was a child

Never having a chance to enjoy life

Life was anything but sweet for me

As I walk along the road to heaven

I stop and look below

I see the others grieving for me

Yet still

I feel none

For what the war has done for me

Is to turn my heart into stone

So now not a drop of emotion can get out

Trapped between the cracks of stone

Perhaps one day I will get my own heart back

Perhaps,

One day,

I will not

Yet now,

It is too late

For I have none __________________*_*_________________*_*___________________*_*___________________*_*_

As I walk along the road to heaven

I stop to say,

"What have I done?"

I gave up my life

The highest price

Just to win, for once
