Author's Note: I had an internet problem and wrote this out of boredom. XD Please enjoy and review
All he wanted was to live a quiet life. That was all Oreki Houtarou wanted. He was perfectly fine with doing nothing everyday and when on occasion he did something, he would make it short. Following his lifetime motto. He would come to school. Take notes. Study. Score average. Perfect life. Or so he thought.
Ever since meeting her, a tiny feeling has been pulling at his chest. The feeling, he knew, would branch out into his whole system. But somehow, he liked it. The feeling was unknown to him, but he did know for sure. He no longer wanted the life he built so low upon. The will of wanting to do something blossomed. The will of curiosity seeded inside him. The will of wanting to be with her sprouted. He completely changed ever since his meeting with her and at first he hated it. But now it made him... happy.
That was all he could really call it. A 'will'. He never really had a motive to do anything, so he never did it. Simply getting things done and sleeping was a blur and nothing really popped into his mind if he searched 'special'. But ever since knowing her, he can pick up a lot of special memories, places, and people. And if anything, one of them would be her.
Though Oreki Houtarou has sorted all the thoughts in the past year, he surely won't admit to anyone else. Because even if he did, he doubted the thought of her returning these exact same feelings would be anything but a dream. To him, being at her side seemed just enough. Seeing her smile was enough.
Ever since a child, Chitanda Eru has always been curious. But no answer could really make her satisfied. Most theories just didn't make any sense. But she wouldn't dread on it to much. Since there were always more important things to think about anyway. But a certain someone somehow made her train of thought go off road. He always seemed to make the most difficult problems nothing easier than breathing. 'Course, he would make a mistake every now and then, but over all his theories would make sense to her. More than anyone else's.
She began paying more attention to him. He always had a frown on his face rarely showing any emotion. Reading a book never really phases his expressions much either. The more she began noticing the details, she became curious of him. How does he spin his pencil like that? Why does he like reading if he doesn't have to read? Why does he rub his bangs to think? Why is there a slight pink on his cheeks? Is he sick? And the questions continued to the point he invaded her thoughts. She desired to know more about the person. And for odd reason, she found that her heart would be a flutter when she catches herself in front of his face.
She smiled more often. She found every conversation interesting and would find herself somewhat sad when he would end a conversation. She noticed her feelings seem to take more action than her thinking. Sometimes she found her cheeks warm for no reason. She started to get confused.
All these questions but no answer. She eventually turned towards a friend who worked at the school library on fridays. The answer was completely unexpected. And now that she knows, the feeling spreaded even more.
Finally knowing why all those times she felt so nervous, she felt happy. There was a name for when your confused on what to say or when you think you look weird when he suddenly stares at you and it makes your heart warm. But a sudden realization would always hit her. What if he doesn't feel the same way as you?
As sad as she felt, Chitanda Eru agreed with the question. Someone like him wouldn't find interest in someone like her. Discouraged, she kept quiet. She found it was enough when his sudden smiles were directed to her. It was enough being at his side.
