A Prank Gone Wrong
There was a definite change in the girls in his class this year Naruto noted to himself. They had become much more standoffish and were constantly talking amongst themselves and giggling, especially when Uchiha Sasuke was around, particularly Yamanaka Ino and Haruno Sakura. The only girl that seemed immune to his charm was Hyuga Hinata.
The boys had changed too. They were equally standoffish from the girls, him included. At first he wondered if it was a group reaction to the new behavior of the girls, but he realized they were just as bad. HIs friends Shikamaru and Choji barely spent time with Ino anymore and they had been friends with her since birth practically, not that she wanted to be anywhere near them these days. Also this new situation was somehow related to how they were reacting to the girls now. While he had always admired Sakura for the unusual color of her hair, he was starting to feel new confusing emotions whenever he got close to her. He wondered if this was what the girls felt when they were near Sasuke.
Iruka-sensei was no help when it came to this new confusion. He had simply been told that it was a part of growing-up, which did not clarify anything for him. He wondered if the other students had gotten better answers from their parents. Being an orphan had its disadvantages at times.
"Hey Naruto," commented fellow dead-last Kiba. Akamaru barked in greeting.
"Hello Kiba," replied Naruto. He wondered if maybe Kiba knew answers to his questions.
"Any idea why all the girls are fawning over that teme Uchiha," he asked.
"He's an alpha male. The females are all attracted to him. The same thing happens in the pack at home."
"How do we get some of that attention?"
"Simple, we betas need to take action," responded the dog-nin-in-training.
"I've got a good idea," commented Naruto. "What if we told them Uchiha likes a particular trait and see how many copy it to see how many really like him." He looked over at Sakura and saw her short pink hair.
"What if we started a rumor that he only likes girls with long hair?"
"That sounds like a good idea. Then we can spot the ones that aren't crazy over him," retorted Kiba.
The two spent the rest of the week spreading the rumor they created. Within a month all the girls in their class, with the exception of the Hyuga girl, had much longer hair.
"Well there's one girl in this class that doesn't like him," commented Naruto to his friends Kiba, Shikamaru and Choji. "I wonder who she does like." Shikamaru chuckled. Choji and Kiba joined in. Akamaru's bark even sounded like laughter.
"What? Who does Hinata-san like? Tell me," inquired Naruto. He was getting really frustrated by his friends' behavior. What did they know that he did not? Growing up was getting confusing.
"It's too troublesome to share," commented the lazy nin.
