I take a few baby steps back, avoiding the gap that was forming between me and another piece of land. "Kairi!" I looked up, to see one of my best friends running towards me, the one that saved me so many times, Sora. He ran towards me, on the other piece of land across from.
"Sora!" I walk a little closer to the edge. The ground rumbles underneath us, making me cry out and fall forwards, but he caught my hand. My hand, he's holding my hand. the lands that we're on are drawing away, making us have to reach across to continue holding on to each other.
"Kairi! Remember what you said before? I'll always be with you, too." I reached across more, him doing the same. "I'll come back for you, I promise!" My hands were slipping. I don't want lose you, I don't! What do you mean you'll come back for me? We're sticking together, right? No! I'm not letting go, never. I looked up into his eyes, and it broke my heart. So sad, but determine to keep his promise. I realized then that, even though I wanted him to never change, he did, but it was ok, 'cause he still is and will be himself, but stronger and more certain of himself. That's when I realized that I had to let him go. I looked him in the eye, seeing the promise still there.
"I know you will." I dropped my grip, us now separating. He reached out to me, but I kept my hands together in front of me. If I did other wise, I know I wouldn't be able to keep the tears back. I watched him go towards the sky on the piece of land as mine drifted away. I looked down at my hands, a glowing spark slipping between my hands. I looked up at the sky, millions of other sparks flowing down towards the ground. I watched them fall, opening my hand to greet the new light. I turned around and watched my island start popping from the ground, like the island was being created again. I look back, watching Sora call me, but I couldn't hear it. I watched until I couldn't see him any more. I closed my eyes, knowing that it would be ok. I opened my eyes and smiled.
When the island was complete, I walked to our secret place, just the three of us, Riku, Sora, and I. I looked at the walls, our drawings scarped on with rocks when we were little. I brushed my hand against the wall, the memories washing back. I came to the ending of the cave, where Sora and I draw a picture of each other, but then I stopped. A hand was drawn to the Sora face with a paupu fruit I draw when I was little. I could just picture Sora kneeling on the ground, starching the rock wall with the smaller rock, his back to me as he added the finishing touches to the picture. I could just see him turning around to me and giving his famous smile, but then the image vanished, just like he did. I was kneeling by it, brushing my hand on his face, laughing at the thought, but crying at the same time.
Every one was happy, running around the island like they use to, challenging each other, like nothing happened. I wondered if I would be the same one-day. Once in a while, my friends would ask where Riku and Sora went. I'd shake my head and look back at the sky and smiled. They'd be back, I know it. He's be back, he promised. I never did tell him how I felt, but I would, I will, when he keeps his promise...
