Because she was scared of monsters... like him.
"Sasuke-kun, Sasuke-kun!"
"What, Sakura-chan?"
"There's a monster in my closet!" the pink haired toddler pouted.
"What does it look like?"
"It's big, it has an evil laugh, and it wants to kill everyone I know and love!"
The little boy frowned. "Why is it in your closet?"
"I-I dunno! But it might kill me!" she cried.
Sasuke laughed and dragged her hand. "I'll protect you Sakura-chan! I promise I won't let any big ugly monster cross your sight again!"
Sakura blushed, then giggled. "It's a promise 'till we grow old, okay? Pinkie promise!"
"Yeah, pinky promise."
"Yay! Thank you!" she smiled as she planted a kiss on his cheek.
Little Sasuke grew all red, then grunted. "Come on, let's just go fight that monster in your closet."
But Sasuke... what happened to you...?
"Kill her... the you'll join me."
She glared at him expressionless, and pulled out her kunai.
Her jade eyes stared at the injured woman's bloodshot eyes.
"Did you do this to her, Sasuke?"
"Just kill her, Sakura! She has no use to me!"
Sakura...
"You know I can't kill her Sasuke!" she cried, holding the kunai between her chest.
I can't let you...
"Hn, you're still pathetic... annoying."
See the monster...
"Sasuke..."
"I'm going to kill you then!" Sasuke laughed.
Chirping of a thousand birds resounded the area, a scream, a thud.
I have become...

("I'll protect you Sakura-chan! I promise I won't let any big ugly monster cross your sight again!")

Sasuke, why did you hurt me?
The pink haired kunoichi lay bloodied on the floor, coughing some blood, then laughing.
"You knew I was going to kill you, huh, Sasuke-kun?"
"Hn."
"So stoic as always."
Sasuke walked to her and sat beside her. Her body lay limp, heart skipping a few beats.
"I missed you, Sasuke-kun."
"... hn."
"You know Sasuke, I'm still scared... of... monsters." She muttered,
"I know."
She smiled, then gently cupped his face with her left hand.
"Y-You broke your promise... Sasuke...kun..."
