I used to sit back and let things unravel. My older brother would always surpass me.
He would always be there to help guide me. Until I decided to take a stand for myself and try to emerge from the shadows.
Every time I dueled a bully he would just have to show up and end it "Fearing for my safety."
One time he was truely right. Just that once and I thought I'd never catch up to him. In skills, determination, everything!
But as time progressed I tried out for the D.A. and actually passed. I made a friend right then off the bat. Odd name..... He was like an older brother from then on. A caring older brother unlike mine who "Always protected me."
Later on that year Aniki and I faced horrors that sacrificed people for power. We faced tough times but my second year was a nightmare.
Everything taken over by brainwashed classmen dressed head to foot in white. Society of Light they called themselves.
They did things... Horrible things to people that had independence. Things like make them share one dim brain. Pathetic.
My older brother graduated the year before and went Pro. But something changed in the older brother I always wanted to surpass. Something wicked after his first pro duel....
Something shrouded in the darkest black......
When he came bakc to the island I challenged him and lost nearly going into a coma afterwards.
He was merciless, evil and wicked. He was violent, demented and quite possibly brainwashed.
He was never the same.
I decided that he had been set back quite a few decent chunks in his path to power. A few of my own I could claim.
And claim them I did. But not with light or darkness. Just emerging from the crowds, shadows and murky places. Just revealing myself for whom I am.
I am Syrus Truesdale and I have surpassed my brother in plenty of areas. Friendship, courage, bravery, determination and compassion. I never "trash-talked" an opponent or decided they were pathetic. I took it all in stride just like my aniki Jaden.
And it is all the truth.
