Bang
-
it's that same sound like an explosion, a kicked-in lock
That
twenty-five years ago announced, quite suddenly,
That the
bright-hued and noble men of America
Had torn off his mask and
glossy black cape,
Uncovered his cleverly-hidden charade
And
ended it all,
shattered
Both his illusions and his
Amazing,
astounding
Deliciously deadly
Magical
Mirror.
But
now,
Instead of those two
It is only the one man:
The one in
pretentious purple
Who styles himself as something like
An
angel, paying the ex-devil a call in the dark
Of his sad home that
smells of mothballs, of bitter pills,
A faded black cape, of dusty
could-have might-have-beens -
"Good night, Mr. Jacobi,"
he says, smiling, "Goodbye, Mr. Jacobi,"
And then a
sound like a burst of red-and-blue fire on the stage. Bang.
