"Such as?" Genai asked.
"Like, why are we the digidestined? What sets us apart from everyone else?"
"Does it really matter?"
"Yes! I mean, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would be better then us. So then, why not pick them?"
"Tai?" Genai said. "Do you know how long the prophecy of the digidestined has been around?"
"No."
"The prophecy has been around for countless years. Centuries, nay mellenia has led up to he day when you would arrive. Remember the prophecy said that you would save this digital world, not that you would be perfect," Genai started to walk to the door. "And never forget, Tai. I've never doubted your abilty to fulfill the prophecy."
"So here I am," Tai said to himself. "But am I really here at all? Or am I just what Izzy said, a shadow, a ghost, a pale porodity of myself? If I am not here then where am I?" he started to look at the stars. "Is it fate? Is it destined that we must ask these questions first? Is it fated for us all to chase the illusions of ourselves throughout these worlds?" he sat down on the ground. "Or maybe this is our destiny. Yes, saving this world. Maybe that is our fate, our task, our destiny."
"Tai?" came the soft voice of Sora. "What are you doing up here?"
"I've been asking that question myself," Tai replied. "That question for mellenia."
Sora blinked and looked at Tai as if he'd gone crazy. A mellenia is a thousand years. He's only in his teens. He couldn't have been asking himself that for a thousand years.
"No, Sora. My question for you, is what are you doing here."
"You weren't in bed. I thought I should've looked for you."
"Maybe," Tai looked back into space. "Or maybe you came up here because it was prophesied that you come up here."
"I don't know what you mean. Tai, what are you doing with your hand?"
Tai looked at his hand. He was slowly curling and uncurling his fingers. "I've been thinking. Am I doing this because I want to do this, or if I'm doing this because destiny commanded me to do this?"
"What does that mean?"
"You heard Izzy. He thinks we're all just computer data. Well, a computer can only do what it is told to do. Why do you think Andromon was at that factory? He was told to, it was his destiny! Maybe we just do what we're being told."
"I still don't see what you mean."
"I've talked to Izzy. He said, theoreticly, two exact same programs should do the same thing on the same computer."
"So?"
"So!" Tai said, turning to face Sora. "There is no difference between us! Me and you! Joe and Mimi! T.K. and Matt! Izzy and Genai! Digimon and Human! Difference? Ha! That's a laugh! There's nothing different about us!"
"And what of Myotismon?"
"Myotismon is just like us! A mindless pawn, fullfilling destiny!"
Without a word, Sora smacked Tai. "Ow! What did you do that for?"
"You know what just happened, Tai?" Sora asked. "You felt pain. No computer can do that, and why would they? A computer does things the most efficently, what is the efficency of pain?"
"Anyway, I'm going to get some sleep, I'll see you," Sora started to walk down the hill.
"Yes," Tai looked at the stars. "Maybe this is our destiny." He then started to walk down to the house.
