It may come to you as a surprise, but there was once a time that the Dark Lord was unstoppable, the most feared man in the whole wizarding world and there was no hope of ever stopping him. There was once a time when Harry Potter did not exist, the Dark Lord hadn't met his match and everyone feared the day that they too would fall to his might. There was once a time when He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was more concerned with his newest weapon than any other prophecy. There was once a time when Lily and James were lowly first years at Hogwarts and nothing more.
It may come to you as a surprise that there could have been a world so much different from the one you grew up in. It may come to you as a surprise that I, Aurora, had lived through this time, seen the fear and pain on people's faces – and even caused some of that pain myself.
I have taken it upon myself to not only share the tale of the Marauders, of James and Lily before their son, before their death and of Lord Voldemort himself but also my own tale. My tale is interwoven with these people like a quilt of many different colors.
You may ask who I am to say anything about your beloved Potters, about Sirius, about Peter and Remus, and I blame you not. I was torn away from their tapestries like a blood traitor is burned out of the family tree in the Black household. I had been forced to choose a side and given a life that none of them could ever wish upon someone else. After a while they thought of me as dead, they knew me as being dead. How terrible it is that I outlived them all and only in death were they made wiser.
This is my tale.
The tale of Aurora Malfoy.
