Disclaimer: I do not own Sonic the Hedgehog. SEGA does, okay? I honestly wish I did.
Claimer: However, I am the owner of Luster the Cat.
Two Spin Dash techniques collided, frightening the obese man observing the fight in the background. Noises sounded from the intense, metallic room as the two warriors collided punches, kicks and spherical moves to attempt to better the other. One of the fighters was organic - the other entirely robotic. Despite this extremely obvious difference, the two fighters looked exactly the same, for whatever reason.
The only thing interrupting the epic battle were the sounds of metal pumps and machines at work, processing the power to run the gigantic, sphere-shaped space station, known to the people of the blue planet below as the Death Egg. Overseen by only one man and his army of loyal Badniks - Dr. Ivo Robotnik. A man worth of his recognition as a vicious, evil dictator, with the power to take over the entire planet if he so wished to. After all, he had taken over an entire island settlement at some point, and he had almost done so again.
He had the power. He had the brains...er, somewhat. At each turn, blocking the dictator's path of destruction, was a hero. A hero well known and well respected and loved through the land. A hero with great recognition, charisma and strength. Most of all, he was known for his speed and cocky attitude, countering the fact that he had black eyes and a particuarly chubby chest.
I am talking about the legendary, the one and only, Sonic the Hedgehog.
"Doctor, your Silver Sonic is nothing compared to me!" Sonic taunted, using a flurry of his most trusted technique - the Spin Dash - to damage his silvery opponent somewhat. "Give it up! I'm gonna tear down this station with my own hands if I have to!"
"I'd like to see you try, pathetic blue rodent!" Robotnik scoffed, not being fazed by such a threat. That hedgehog only beat me on South Island because of a fluke. This time, he won't be so lucky.
Sonic, the Blue Blur, the Speedy Blue Hero, the Speedster, the well known hero of the planet Mobius, proved his year-long arch nemesis wrong. He had met him only one year ago, and already, a fierce love-hate relationship formed between the two. Nothing could break this impenetrable bond of enemies. This chemistry was unknown to either of them.
"Critical error...shutting down..." Silver Sonic reported, as the metallic equivalent to Sonic collapsed to the ground in a large explosion.
This explosion alerted the scientist, prompting him to depart from the room and enter a hallway, closing the door behind him, therefore trapping Sonic inside the battle room.
"Ha! Now try and escape! I dare you!" Robotnik taunted, while Sonic realised his current peril.
He asessed the probability of escaping - and the authenticy of such a trap.
"Come on, doc, you should know that nothing can hold me!" returned Sonic, charging up a powerful Spin Dash to tear through the door.
Robotnik quickly dashed into the next room, narrowly avoiding a face-to-face confrontation with his pesky enemy and initiating phase two of his master plan. Everything resided in this next battle.
Sonic tore through the 'trap' and followed the fat robot scientist to the grey-coloured yet grand room. His quills were standing on end.
"You may have defeated my Final Zone machine..." Robotnik recalled, climbing into the gigantic mech that was positioned right behind him, powering it on and twisting it's front metal claws. "But you don't stand an iota of a chance against my Death Egg Robot!"
"That remains to be seen!" Sonic grinned, rushing into the fight without a second thought.

Death Egg
Our spikey blue hedgehog hero attempted usage of a Spin Jump, trying to land a hit on the giant red, yellow, black, silver and beige coloured mech's torso area, managing to do it successfully. Twice.
"You know, your design just improves!" Sonic mocked, as the Death Egg Robot started ascending using he power of it's jet located at the back. "Too much of a coward to come back down? I thought so!"
No answer, not even at the final remark. Just the waiting and watching for the huge robot to come crashing down - which it did, after a while. Thanks to the physics surrounding said drop, the hedgehog managed to chip in two more hits from two more Spin Jumps, dashing away to the other side of the room in defence.
Robotnik seemed to be busy focusing on eliminating his chronic pain of a nemesis. He didn't care about pointless, witty banter. All he cared about was crushing that hedgehog.
Sonic carefully evaded two of the spiked claws that were fired at him in the form of projectiles, and sped up to the Death Egg Robot, using one more Spin Jump before it decided to use the ascending crush technique once again. The hero did not fall to such repetitive, mundane and predictable tactic, and fought back by using his speed and Spin Jump capabilities.
His strength and cunning were positively bouncing all over the place, as the doctor cursed his name out in anger. This was the only thing the Death Egg Robot was designed to do - he couldn't go out of those set parameters. All he could do was rinse and repeat the tactic of hovering back up and crashing down, also firing the projectile spiked claws in the process. Sonic could easily take advantage of such waning intellect of a mighty opponent.
That he did. After several Spin Jumps, the Death Egg Robot was no more, as it imploded, causing it's entire shell to break into a million pieces. This caused the doctor to panic, ever so slightly.
"No! Argh, I can't-not again!" Robotnik frowned, worriedly scampering into his handy floating mobile - the Egg Mobile. "Now that you've destroyed the Death Egg Robot, the whole station's going to explode! I just-work, you stupid machine! WORK!"
"Thanks! That's all I needed! Game over, Robotnik! I've saved Westside Island, collected all the seven Chaos Emeralds before you did, again, and I've defeated you again," Sonic pointed out, laughing in the face of victory. "Goodbye."
The blue hedgehog Spin Dashed right through all the doors, robots and blockades that formed in his wake. Everything tried to stop him from escaping - everything failed. Nothing could contain Sonic the Hedgehog.
Not even an explosion.

Outside the exploding Death Egg
After escaping the explosion, the hedgehog had only two choice. 1: Wait for the explosion to kill him. 2: Jump out into space, hopefully landing in Mobius.
He went with the latter option. Sonic was now in space, and luckily, the gravity field of the planet was just about in his range, causing the blue blur to start collapsing for Mobius. He re-entered the atmosphere with a burning desire to see the destruction of the Death Egg alive.
"Tails, you better get here in time..." Sonic hoped, trying to slow his descent the best way he could.

Emerald Hill Zone
Upon the ground, surrounded by several other Mobians, a two-tailed orange fox celebrated at the sight of the imploding of the Death Egg, signalling Robotnik's defeat and end of his liberation over the island. Finally, they were free.
"Alright! He did it! Sonic did it!" Miles smiled, hopping up and down in joy.
The other Mobians were speechless. The one that they had beaten up, insulted and bullied for so long had finally done something. He had saved them, even though of the terrible life they gave him.
"You-I can't believe it..." one of the bullies spoke, speechless.
"You did it...you and your friend..." another bully stuttered.
"Perhaps you're not so bad after all..." a third bully suggested, scratching his head in embarassment.
A particularly old looking Mobian stepped forward. He seemed to be the leader of the group.
"Here today, we witness the bravery of the once bullied fox known to all as Miles Prower. Without his engineering excellence, that space station would not be imploding right now. Not even Sonic the Hedgehog would be able to do it on his own," the older Mobian announced, lifting the arm of the young fox. "Now, he has shown his consideration for the people. An act of absolute kindness. If I ever see this boy bullied ever again, that person should be shunned. He's the best thing that could ever happen to us."
Someone from the crowd that gathered just as the elder started talking spoke out. "Three cheers for Miles!"
"Hip-hip, hooray! Hip-hip, hooray! Hip-hip, hooray!" the entirety of Emerald Hill cheered, as tears of joy fell from Miles' pupils.
Never had he been so appreciated before. Ever since his parents' deaths at his birth, he had been ridiculed, ignored and beaten by almost everyone. His life was a walking misery. Now that he had met Sonic, now that he had helped save everyone, he felt happy. This is his first time experiencing said emotion.
"Thank you, everyone...I don't know how to-wait! Sonic! I forgot!" realised Miles, slapping his furry forehead in realisation.
Much to the confusion of the crowd, the twin-tailed mutant fox hopped into the nearby Tornado bi-plane, started it up, and began ascending. All became clear as soon as they saw a familiar blue projectile shooting for the planet.

Outside the exploding Death Egg
In what seemed like forever, Sonic's final hope of making it out alive was fulfilled, as the familiar red plane approached, piloted by none other than Miles Prower, his new best friend.
"Thanks, Tails. I knew I could count on ya," Sonic grinned, nodding in appreciation of being saved from certain death.
"My pleasure, Sonic. I just wanna say...thanks. Thank you for bettering my life. Now, the people at Westside Island don't hate me anymore. They...they actually love me. I've never had that happen! Now that you're here...without you, I probably couldn't be able to take it for longer...I would probably have-" Tails thanked, before being silenced.
"Don't finish that sentence. I don't wanna hear it," interjected Sonic, folding his arms. "Don't think about what you may have done. Think about what's happenin' now. We're going back to a safer place!"
"What? I'm not gonna live in Emerald Hill anymore?!" Tails asked, dumbfounded.
Sonic smirked and shook his head. "Nope! You're gonna live in my home with me. There's no way I'm letting ya alone!"
At that last remark, Tails properly began the waterworks. Luckily, he didn't get any of the splashes onto the controls or steering, though this did cause him to lose focus on his current flying position, as the plane started to dip down for the ground.
Tails realised this, and sorted the plane and himself out.
"Sorry...just, I never had anybody care about me like that before. Where do ya live, again?" Tails apologised, getting his bearings.
"Over in the Mystic Ruins. I know, ya told me that everyone said Mystic Ruins was haunted, but it's not. I love it there," Sonic informed. "Lots of space to run. There's a workshop there you'll probably enjoy."
"Awesome! Just tell me where it is, and I'll take us to our home!" Tails answered, getting directions from his new best friend.
The two friends waved to the Mobians below, as they departed from the island and towards the Mobius mainland, where their home awaited.

Mystic Ruins
A while of searching later, Sonic had directed Tails to the correct area. Mystic Ruins was within sight and reach. The red Tornado that had Sonic's name plastered onto the side parked on the runway, perfectly. Sonic and Tails decided to leave it there, because who was gonna steal the bi-plane, I mean really?
The two stood outside the front door, looking onto what would be their future.
"Sonic?" Tails turned to face his friend.
"Yeah, Tails?" Sonic wondered, also turning around.
"Thanks," Tails thanked again.
"No problem. Now let's go inside," Sonic nodded, grinning and offering the fox a high five.
"Yeah!" Tails grinned in return, happy accepting the gesture.
And from there on out, a legendary friendship was formed. A friendship that would break the bonds of time, space and reality itself. One of which's bond would never break, not even at the worst of times.
Sonic and Tails' destinies weren't over yet, neither had they peaked just.
Their journey had only just begun.
