1. Prologue

She wondered if it was the atmosphere of the room or the subtle scent of his husband that was suffocating her. She deeply stared at the flickering candle at her bedside as she sat up from the king sized bed.

The bedroom had been but small and cramped; it was painted in classic beige, decorated with finely crafted porcelains, furnished with exquisite woods and finished with a finely done portrait of her in a wedding kimono with her husband.

No matter how spacious the room she was in, she felt asphyxiated. She stood up, the cold air slicing through the thin silk of her nightgown and momentarily making her shiver. Despite the cold temperature, she went to the balcony.

The sky resembled a black curtain with a big hole punched in it. The fullest glory of the moon shone upon her lithe form as her mind once again drifted away. Her husband has not been home for days. He has been assigned to lead an army to war but she knows that he would come back to her. He always did.

Her green eyes caught a flash of yellow as she took her gaze below. It was the blonde knight and her lilac-eyed guest, prancing around her garden on a full moon of a late evening. It made her eyes narrow in both jealousy and disgust. She crossed her arms around her chest as she watched the two.

She watched as the lilac-eyed woman kissed the man's jaw and neck. He was still and unmoving, his arms limp at his side and his blue eyes were passive and dull. She smirked at his reaction, her short pink tresses dancing with the sudden cold wind.

She watched as the girl whispered something in his ear and kissed him fully on the lips, only this time, he held her close by the waist and responded. Her proud smirk suddenly disappeared as her own fingernails drew little crescents upon her porcelain skin. The sight made her blood boil with resentment and envy. She turned her heels and walked away, the wind bittersweet on her lips.

She tangled herself beneath the sheets and silently cried.

Because even with the riches, fame and power combined, she could only watch her love be taken away from her.

His name died on her lips as she remembered the 'once have been's of that blue-eyed boy and her.
