I steal a glace at him. He's been watching me for the past few heartbeats. Tigerclaw. I feel a tugging at my heart. Something I shouldn't feel. I have a weird feeling about him. I can tell a couple of the other cats In the clan do, too. Fireheart especially. I glance at him again. He's still staring. There's something in his daunting amber eyes. Hunger.

I meet his gaze. I take a shuddery breath. He's a wolf, in disguise. But I can't stop staring at those evil eyes.

"Goldenflower!" I open one eye. "Goldenflower!" I open the other. I feel a nudge on my flank. I roll over, to find myself face to face with Fireheart. He's looking at me urgently. Before I can say anything, he slaps his tail over my mouth, and motions for me to come outside. I slowly get up, and pick my way out of my den. Once outside, Fireheart sits down. I sit as well.

"Stay away from him." Fireheart tells me. "You don't know who he really is." I narrow my eyes.

"What do you mean?" I question, my voice a little to fierce.

"I saw you watching him." When I don't say anything, Fireheart keeps talking. "Tigerclaw."

"When?" I'm taken back by Fireheart's words, but I don't show it.

"At the clan meeting earlier, I saw." He replies calmly.

"So?" I snap, my tail flicking back and forth. "What does that have to do with anything?"

Fireheart looks me in the eyes. "Don't trust him. He's not who you think he is. He's a traitor. He's a monster."

I clench my teeth, trying to hide my anger. "You don't know him." I growl.

"But I do." Fireheart says calmly.

Without bothering to answer, I spin around and head back into my den.

As the days pass, Tigerclaw and I have been getting closer and closer. One day, he asks me to take a walk with him.

"Sure." I say, and smile at him. Without a word, he leads me into the forest. We walk for what seems like moons, not a word spoken. I can't take the silence any longer. "Where are we going?" I finally ask.

Tigerclaw stops walking, and looks at me. "You'll see." He says simply. He continues walking.

I stare for a moment, then keep walking. After I've caught up to him, I try again. "Well I like it?" I ask him.

"You'll see." He replies. I can see a faint smile crossing his lips. I frown. Then, an idea crosses my mind. Quiet as a mouse, I crouch down. After a moment, I pounce, and land square on Tigerclaw's massive shoulders. I catch him off guard, but he quickly collects himself. I hear a playful growl rise out of his throat. He rears up onto his hinds legs, and starts falling backwards. I quickly leap off him, and he falls to the ground with a loud thump. Before he can get up, and jump onto his unprotected belly. I snarl, and grab onto his shoulders. He looks up at me, and smiles. I get caught up in his eyes, and let my guard down.

Tigerclaw rolls me onto my back, pinning me. "Never let your guard down. Especially when you have a handsome tom under you." He teases.

I smirk. "Never let your guard down when there's a quick she cat under you." Quick as a rabbit, I roll over, hoping to pin Tigerclaw. Instead, we keep rolling. Tigerclaw let's out a surprised yowl as we tumble down what appears to be a small hill. After a few heartbeats we hit the bottom. Tigerclaw and I stay like that for a while, curled up together. He breaks the silence. "Let's build a nest."

I nod.

We walk back to camp the next morning, tails entwined. I barely notice the few stares we were getting. But I do notice Fireheart. His green eyes scorch my pelt like the boiling sun above. I can't help but glance at him. He shakes his head slowly, and turns back to the fresh-kill pile. How dare he! I am about to go speak to him, but Tigerclaw presses his pelt against mine, calming me down.

I should have listened to Fireheart.

He was right.
