Disclaimer: I do not own anything here, etc. All hail Homer. You know the drill.

Ok, this is part of the Trojan War. I based it on the books, not the movie. I thought of the idea a few weeks ago, before the movie came out but I only got around to writing it in geography today. So. This is written from Achilles' point of view. In the book, Achilles and Patroclus were lovers, but here they are just good friends. So take your minds out of the gutter. I don't do slash. Btw, do me a favour. After Achilles finds out that Patroclus is dead, close your eyes for ten seconds in between reading the bits of thought/dialogue. I couldn't get enough spaces in when I uploaded it. So. Read on.

The battle is not going well. They need my men and most of all they need me.

Hah. That will show Agamemnon. Call me childish but it's his fault.

Patroclus is running towards me, slipping on the sand. He has been watching the fighting. Why is he crying?

"What is the matter my friend?

"Achilles! They are dying. The Trojans are killing them all. Odysseus and Diomedes have been injured. You must fight!"

I sigh. Odysseus and Diomedes are friends of mine. I don't want them dead. But which is more important? My honour or my friends?

"Patroclus, we've been through this." I embrace him. "I'm sorry, but you know me."

"Then let me go in your armour! Let me lead the soldiers. The others need help."

Patroclus, why are you doing this to me? We will sail for Greece in the morning. Can you not stay safe until then?

"It is too dangerous. You are too young to die."

"I won't get hurt! Why don't you trust me?"

"I do! I trust you with my life. But I can't let you get hurt."

"I won't. You taught me to fight. Let me go."

I give up. "Fine. But when you have driven them from the ships, come back. Don't chase them. Don't die on me."

He laughs. "Don't worry. See you soon."

"Patroclus."

"Yes Achilles?"

"Good luck." I hug him again and hold him against me.

"Thanks. But I will be fine."

"I know. Get those Trojans."

He grins at me as he leaves.

How come I have such a bad feeling about this?

I stay in the tent. If they see me while I am supposed to be fighting, it is a bit unsubtle. The men are cheering as they see Patroclus ride out.
The battle has turned.

I wait impatiently for his return. How long has he been out there? Never mind.
Zeus, keep him safe.
I can hear the sound of horses galloping towards me. Patroclus! God, let him not be injured. I can't live without him. I dash out of the tent. It's Antilochos!

But where is Patroclus?

"Achilles!"

"Antilochos! Where is Patroclus? I told him to come back immediately."

"God, Achilles, I don't know how to say this."

"Say what? Say what??" Tell me, damn you!

"Patroclus- Patroclus fell."

Shit.

"Achilles?"

I think I'm going to be sick.

"I'm sorry. He died bravely. He drove the Trojans from the ships. But he chased them back to the Walls."

Someone catch me. I think I'm falling.

"We have his body. Menelaus saw him fall and Ajax brought him back to camp. But Hector has your armour."

Who?

"I'm sorry. We got there too late."
"Who?"

"Hector. It was a spear wound. I'm so sorry."

My eyes are watering. How can he be dead?

It should have been me. They thought it was me.

Patroclus.

"My lord? What do you want me to do?"

Patroclus.

"Achilles?"

"Bring him to me. I want to see him."

"Yes, my lord."

God, why?

His body comes in. The men leave.

I'm cradling him in my arms.

Patroclus.

God, why?

I bury my face in his tunic and sob.

Why?

Patroclus.

I'm so sorry.

My blood brother.

My friend.

Patroclus.

We won't be sailing tomorrow.

Hector is going down
