The sky was painted with magnificent colors as it set slowly over the horizon. Kairi

watched the beautiful sight while sitting with her arms hugging her legs on the soft sand. The

palm trees swayed as the ocean breeze swept past her. She brushed her long, red hair out of her

face.

Kairi sat there and waited, as if expecting someone to appear out of the sky. But, sadly,

no one ever came. Every time the sun set for a year, the 15 year old would wait on the Destiny

Island's beach for her two friends to return to her. Kairi wanted nothing more than to at least see

Sora and Riku again. Just one more time.

Stars started to dot the darkening sky. Kairi sighed deeply and quietly walked toward her

home. At least she could still hear Sora, for his voice never left her. A tear fell down her cheek.

"Where are you now, Sora?" Kairi whispered as she continued to walk through the small

island.

Kairi smiled as she pictured his cheerful face. His handsome grin always made her feel

secure and special in a way no one can describe. She missed that more than anything.

Suddenly, Kairi stopped abruptly and her eyes opened wide with fear. Something was

wrong! Sora....his voice was gone!

"Sora!" she cried. "What's happened?!"

Without thinking, Kairi ran to the "secret place" next to the sparkling waterfall. She

proceeded through the dark passageway. She stepped into the center of the room and stared at the

tall, silver door she had seen only one year ago.

"The worlds have been connected once again," Kairi gasped in horror. "Oh Sora. Where

are you? Why did this happen?"

Tears streamed down her face at the sudden thought that Sora and Riku might never come

back to her. She would never run races with Riku or listen to some funny joke Sora created just

to make her laugh. But worst of all, Kairi would never have the chance to express her true

feelings to Sora. The feelings of love and happiness he gives her whenever he looks at her with

those big, adoring blue eyes.

Kneeling her knees before the door, Kairi felt that all hope was lost.

"Ahhh!"Kairi cried as a blinding light appeared in front of her. She shielded her eyes with

her hand until the light dimmed and died.

She stared at the powerful weapon that showed up out of nowhere. It was a sword, but

unlike any other sword Kairi ever saw before. It had a sapphire, an emerald, and a ruby decorated

on the gold handle. The sword seemed to dazzle as Kairi held it carefully in her hands. The blade

was very long, yet the sword felt light and easy to hold. It was as if she was destined to have this

dangerous weapon just as she was to be one of the princesses.

Kairi felt no more tears, for she knew what she had to do. She had to find the two people

she cared about most, even if that meant risking her life against the heartless. This sword would

help her on her journey.

"I'll find you, Sora" Kairi said. "I promise."
