Well, this is my first post in about two years... so sorry anyone waiting for my other fic, it probably isn't going to be updated. First Supernatural drabble – what do you think? Gabriel was my favourite character – I almost cried when he died.

Shadowmere

The blade plunged through Gabriel's stomach, ripping through flesh and bone to pierce his grace.

White light spilled like blood from the wound, and Gabriel could only stare in numb disbelief as his brother gripped him tightly. A gasp escaped his lips – more from shock than pain – as his mind caught up to reality, and the Archangel knew he was going to die.

In fairness, he'd known that the moment that he'd decided to confront his brother; had known that only one of them could leave the room alive, and it wasn't going to be him. He couldn't do it, couldn't kill his own brother. Winchester was right; he was a coward. He didn't want to fight anymore. Gabriel just... wanted it to be over.

The Morningstar held the side of the Messenger's face and held him close in a cruel, rough mockery of an embrace, as his control over his faithful vessel began to slip and his very grace began to burn up, destroying him from the inside out. Lucifer released his hold, and Gabriel fell.

Around the now empty vessel, the ashes of what had once been brilliant golden wings settled on the dirty floor.
