"Happy Valentines Day" came the shy voice, a small paper heart clutched between sweaty hands.
The girl looked up, she was sitting under a tree in her local park, a place where she loved to go and play. She had loved this tree since she had started coming this play park when she was just a tiny toddler, barely walking. There were photos of herself trying to climb it for the first time, when she was barely knee high to a grasshopper. Now she was nine and still she loved this tree. It provided her shade to read, a place to climb to escape her annoying sister.
The shy voice belonged to a a boy her age, a boy she had met as this very park just a year earlier. He was about her height, with shoulder length black hair and dark eyes that barely hid the horrors of his home life. There was a smile on his face, not an obvious one that everyone would notice, but a special on just for her.
"Thank you Severus, I love it" Lily said as she accepted the boy's heart, not knowing that it would always belong to her.
