My heart echoed loud in my ears, almost drowning out the waves crashing against many cliff sides and the mournful cries of the seagulls. The grass surrounding me was long and sharp, taking every opportunity to poke and scratch at my legs, determined to draw blood through the barrier of my denim jeans. The mud clung to my once white trainers as my feet slammed against the ground repeatedly, everything whipped quickly as I ran, pushing myself to the limit and over. After what felt like years, centuries even, though in reality only a few minutes had past, I reached my destination.
I stood tall and squared my shoulders and glared at my newest enemy. He stood tall and proud, his empty eye sockets seemed to take me in, to judge how much of a threat I was. The stench of death lay heavy around him, it did not surprise me though. His flesh as half rotted and black, as if he had been dead for decades. Dark, decaying bones protruded proudly though his stringy black skin. His clothes were mere rags around his hips barely covering him, overall he looked like a Wight.
He lifted a gaunt bony hand, it was smeared with fresh, red blood, the blood ran down his arm in rivulets as he uncurled his fingers. To my horror, he revealed a fleshy, human heart. Blackened, rotting lips curled upwards before he threw back his head and began to chant, in his hoarse, creaking voice.
"Dominis meis infra, ego obsequitur desiderio tuo, Patefacio circulorum inferni"
Brilliant white circles of runic symbols appeared around him, constantly shifting and changing their image. He lowered his hand, and turned his grotesque face to face me, a cruel smirk flashed across his face "My lords tell me you are here to stop me. Kill me." With inhuman quickness he pointed behind me "I believe you will be too easy to kill outside this circle, so I invite you into it. Of course, if you want to survive the runes, you'll have to offer them a sacrifice."
I shifted my body sideways, so I could see him as well as where he was pointing. To my horror Cornelia was chained up to a large rock, unconscious and bleeding. Next to her was my mother, her chest was crudely carved open and empty. It was her heart that he was holding in his rotting, skeletal hand. White hot anger ensnared my senses and I lost control of my body, my vision went black. I knew I would kill him, I wanted to kill him. No matter what the cost was.
Suddenly, I found myself standing opposite Cornelia, I was covered in blood. There was something soft and fleshy in the palm of my hand, I looked down. Cornelia's chest was cut open, her clothes were stained red, and in my palm was her heart. I stared almost transfixed for a second watching stray drops of blood roll of the heart and down my arm. I snapped my head up and whirled around to face my enemy.
"They have their sacrifice, the Guardian of Earth." My voice was calm despite my inner turmoil, I stalked towards him.
My feet swiftly carried me into the runes, almost blinding white light hitting me as I did so. We circled each other without leaving the edge of the runes. I decided quickly to stand still, the Wight's lips stretched thinly over his lips and he rushed at me. Before his body could connect with mine I let the light of the heart of Candracar shine, I watched as the power of the heart ripped the evil soul from the dying host and consumed it.
