A smile formed on her lips. It was a nice house, located in the middle of nowhere.

Trees where her neighbors and she found that calming.

Evangeline held her suit case in her hand. It was all she brought with her, along with her two bird cages.

She opened the door to her new home.

The walls were a dark red, the carpet was a cream colour and the furniture was brown leather. Evangeline set the bird cages down and wandered to the master bedroom. She set her single suit case on the bed and grabbed her pajamas.

Evangeline fell sound asleep that night.

She woke up to the sound of barking. She stumbled out of bed, and flung open the door. Her eyes narrowed, at the blond retriever at her door. The sun hadn't even risen yet. She smiled at the dog and called him inside.

The dog followed her inside, she turned a light on and looked at the name tag written on the collar.

" Winston?" She asked the dog's ears perked at his name.

She smiled, and walked into the kitchen and got a cup of coffee going, while she dialed the number on his tags.

She heard a knock on the door after the second ring. She put her phone down, and went to the door.

A man with curly brown hair and a dog leash was on her door step.

Before he could speak she did. " Is his name Winston?"

She asked and he nodded. " Come in, his in the kitchen. "

The man stuck his hands in his pockets and walked in.

She shut the door behind him.

" Kitchen is this way, " she said as she pushed open a red door.

Winston barked at his master and jumped up licking him in the face.

Evangeline chuckled.

" Do you want coffee? It's almost finished."

" I would hate to be a bother.." he began. She waved him off.

" Nonsense. Sit. My name is Evangeline Moors. Just so we aren't complete strangers."

" Will Graham." He said, as he sat down.

She grabbed two mugs from her cupboard.

" How many sugars?"

" None." She nodded and poured Will a cup of black coffee. She put two sugars in hers.

She sat at the table and placed the mug in front of him. He brought it to his lips with a smile.

" Thank you, Evangeline. "

She grinned not enough to show her teeth however.

" So how did you come across Winston?"

She asked rubbing the retriever's ears. " Stray. Found him on my way home from work."

" What do you do?" Evangeline asked drinking her coffee.

" I work with FBI. I solve murders and such."

She nodded.

" Interesting. I did a course in forensic science, I loved it."

" Why didn't you pursue it as a career? "

" Getting shot and put into a coma does a number on your college education." She said bitterly.

" But, I enjoy what I do." She added in a lighter tone.

Will's eyebrows pinched together.

" What do you do?".

" Veterinary medicine, graphic design, computer science. Art. Lots of art. " She told him with a bright smile.

" I know this house was vacant for a while, when did you move in?"

" Yesterday. " Evangeline took another drink. Will nodded sipping on his coffee.

" you bought the house set up like this?"

" Yep. I just brought my bird's and a suitcase. What about you Will? How long have you lived in this area?"

" A long time. Most of my life really." He supplied his hands tracing patterns on the rim of the mug.

" Cool. Well, I don't want to cause you to be late for work or anything, but you should stop by sometime. It'd be nice to know someone around here. " She told him standing to put her mug in the sink. Will did the same, he clicked the leash on Winston's collar.

" Bye Evangeline. I will try to swing by later this week. Have a good day, thanks for the coffee. "

" No problem, have a good day." She waved at him as he disappeared down her driveway.

Evangeline stepped back inside.

She went into her bedroom and changed into a crisp white top and red pencil skirt. She grabbed a black blazer and pumps.

She pinned her hair in French twist and put on her basic makeup along with ruby red lips. She grabbed her purse, and left in her jaguar.

Evangeline frowned at the meat selection, the small store held nothing to her liking.

" Do you need any help?"

" Something fucking edible would be nice." She said without thinking.

" I'm sorry, that was terribly rude. " She told the man in the well tailored suit.

A grin crossed his lips, " That's alright."

" Does this town have a butcher? I normally cut it up myself but I just moved in and don't want to fool with it now. " She told him before placing it down

He shook his head. " I am afraid not. "

She pursed her lips together.

" Thank you any way. " She said finally with a small smile.

He returned a tight lipped one.

She walked away. Something was off about him, something she easily recognized in her own reflection. His eyes.

A cunning intelligence was behind the irises, he was a man not to be taken lightly. She found the same look in her own.

Evangeline shook her head, as she reached behind her head, and unclipped her hair and let fall in black waves down her back.
