I don't know Lord of the Rings....why do people keep asking me that?!?!Explanation
by Angelface04
I hold in my hand the fate of the world. I, Frodo Baggins, a small hobbit, will decide the fate of Middle-earth. How did it ever come to this? I look to my left and see Sam, sprawled on the ground, exhausted. My heart goes out to him, for he should not be here. I can feel the corners of my eyes begin to burn. If anything should happen to him....he's my best friend.
I glance to my right and I can make out two small forms, Merry, and Pippin, sleeping soundly. Boromir, Gandalf, and Gimli, all quiet, except for the dwarf's periodic snores. I can make out the form of Aragorn, I cannot tell whether he is asleep or awake but he does not move.
And there, leaning against a tree, is Legolas, holding his bow to his chest, alert and wary. His sad green-blue eyes catch mine and I seem to be lost in the infinite knowledge.....then, he smiles sadly, and looks away, off into the distance, perhaps at something too distant for my eyes.
I sigh, and shift slightly. I hear a crackle, and without even thinking I grasp the Ring tighter. I suddenly realize what I am doing....the Ring has already begun it's hold on me.
Abruptly I feel something moving above me and looking up I see the Elf, standing there, his bow drawn, and apparently aimed at something...
"Do not move." His clear voice whispers. I nod in amazement. He was so swift, and yet, so silent.
"Legolas?" A soft voice calls out. I immediately recognize it as Aragorn's. So he wasn't asleep....I look slowly to the creature and I see a warg, baring it's nasty yellow teeth, staring at the bow in the Elf's hand...staring at his death...not flinching, just staring. All of the sudden I hear a thwang! and instantly the crunch of leaves as the beast falls.
"It is alright Estel." Legolas says softly. "He is the only one. We are safe...for the time being." Aragorn nodded and I noted that the Elf had called him Estel. So this man had, yet, another name.
I came back to awares as the Elf knelt beside me.
"You carry a great burden, Frodo." He looked straight into my eyes, and I felt it hard to hold his gaze. "Do not worry about me, or the others. We chose to come on this Quest with you...we will do all that we can to protect you."
With that he walked away gracefully. I stared after him in disbelief. It was as if he had read my mind.
The last thing that I remember before drifting off to sleep was his soft Elven voice singing in his native tongue...about the grass, the moon, and the stars.
