Chapter 1: Songs about life

7 July ???, ???, ???

I knew I had nothing to live for the moment everyone left my life. It was only a matter of time. So this is what it feels like to be pathetic and useless. My parents only thought of me as a money making tool. It was a disturbing thought. I thought I was special but that was just a dumb phase everyone had to go through. I sat on the railing of my balcony, my legs swaying along with breeze. The city sure is beautiful. The cars zooming around the city, honking their horns like they're always in a hurry. I wore my earphones as I played my favourite track one last time. I slid my phone into my pocket, moving my head to the rhythm. 'Do you ever feel like breaking down'. Now that I think about it, I did have a good life. I mean before everything spiral down into the pit. 'Do you ever feel out of place'. I had a good friend to back me up, my parents supporting my dream, my heart flustered when I see my crush.

Heh. Guess my life wasn't so bad before today. I look down, viewing the busy city. Welp, guess this is it. 'Like somehow you just don't belong and no one ever understands you'. My hand pushed against the railing at my side, propelling me forward. I suddenly felt weightless, my whole body felt free. The wind rushed towards my face, my arms flailing around. 'Do you ever want to run away'. My memories came flooding back to me. All the sweet bitter memories. My tears starts to well up around my eyes. No. Why now? Why do I have to regret my decision now? It's too late. I can't go back. My heart hurts. Please stop. 'Do you lock yourself in your room'. The busy road got closer and closer to me as I soon met it. I closed my eyes. Goodbye world.

'Everyone can be special if they choose to be.'

~~~
'Welcome to my lifeThese were the words I heard before coming back into the world of consciousness. I woke up with the worst headache I have ever felt. My head felt like it just exploded like it did in the movie 'Scanners'. I opened my eyes bit by bit as to let them adjust to the bright lights. The light was exceedingly blinding which cause me to cover my eyes in response. My other hand reached the ground only to feel that it's rough and coarse?! As my eyes starts to adjust, I used both hands to sit upright and took in my surroundings.
The world seem a bit out of...place. I looked around only to see tiny sand scattered around the area. My eyes finally adjusted as I tried to stand up straight. When I said the world seem out of place I wasn't kidding. The world seem more...cartoon-ish? If there's even a word for it. Like the entire world just seem hand drawn but that was the least of my problems. I was surrounded by miles and miles of sand with no sign of civilization in sight. I could not tell where I was. I knew I should've paid attention during Geography class. I took off my earphones and stuff them in my pockets.
I got up and started wandering around with no destination in mind. The longer I walked, the more my mind drifted off. I clearly died not too long ago but now I am in middle of what seem like a desert. Could this be the afterlife? I mean this is the only conclusion I could draw. My head starts to get dizzy. Welp! Thinking isn't going to help me, just got to keep heading straight.
~~~

I have been wandering for a long ten minutes. My arms swayed around as my back is hunched slightly. I could not take this heat any longer. I'm gonna die!!!! Okay, stop being such a whiny douche, Sam. You're gonna live trough this. Just stay ca- What is that!!!

Something large stood before me. A T-rex!!! Don't tell me that the afterlife had dinosaurs too. Since this is the afterlife, there must some kind of rules, right? Like don't kill off your afterlife buddies? The T-rex stomped over to me. It's body shadowing over mine. It looked down at me, opening it's mouth. I'm so dead. I dived to the right before his jaw snapped shut. It turned it's head at me and ran towards me. I quickly got up and ran like my life depended on it. I know it does but my head goes kinda haywire when I'm panicking.

My legs still felt exhausted from my desert marathon earlier. I tripped over a rock and fell. Damn it!! No one told me that the afterlife had cliches. I looked towards the dinosaur, trying to back away but the obvious-carnivore predator came closer to me. I put my hands out, signalling the beast to back away. Instead my hands glowed and something shot out of it.

Whatever that was, missed the dinosaur and shot into the sky, exploding. I got magic?! Okay, I'm starting to doubt this is the afterlife now. The blast did not hit the T-rex so it got closer and decided it would be best to finish me quickly before I could perform another magic blast. I put my hand outwards again but to no avail.

"Wolf fang fist!!" Someone shouted out loud on my left. The dinosaur turned it's head to only meet a fist smashing into his face. A furry of punches came hitting across the beast's face. Before I knew it, the dinosaur had already been plummeted into the actual afterlife. I look back onto my saviour who is already leaving. I shouted out loud, not wanting to be left alone again.

He turned around and I got a good look at his face. My saviour was the one and only Yamcha?! That pieces some things together like how there are actually dinosaurs in the dragon ball universe. However, there's also more questions yet to be answered like how did I get here? Yamcha waved his hand in front of my face to get my attention. "Hello? Are you okay?" Yamcha asked.

"Huh? Oh, sorry. Just kinda spaced out." I said, chuckling slightly. Shit! I shouldn't space out too much.

Yamcha arched his eyebrow slightly at that. "Okay...so what did call me for?" Yamcha asked curiously.

"Oh, I just want to thank you for saving me back there." I said.

"That's all? Well, I got stuff to do so I gotta go." As he said that, he turned around and started to leave.

No! I need to do something. I don't have a place to stay yet. "Hey! Sorry to bother you again but I don't exactly have a place to stay." I shouted at him politely. Not exactly sure how shouting can be polite but please just try to go with it.

"Huh? Well sorry, I don't exactly give people a place to stay. You see, I'm a bandit. A bad guy." Yamcha turned around slightly to look at me. He seem slightly annoyed at me.

"Well, I don't think a bad guy just saves anyone and that's what you did. So I don't think you're a bad guy." I said, arguing his point.

He stared at me and seemingly thought about what I said before resuming the conversation, "Alright, I'll let you stay but what can you do to help me?"

I stood there and thought about it before giving my answer. "I guess I could try to get a job in the city to earn some money. I mean I don't think anyone knows I'm with a bandit."

Yamcha somehow find what I said offensive. "What is your point?" He said bitterly.

I got nervous a bit and step back a little. "What I'm trying to say is that I could get some money so that I could provide enough money for the both of us." I said quickly, not wanting to be on the receiving end of his fist.

He stood there, thinking for awhile before looking back at me. "Alright, I guess that could work. Follow me if you want to stay at my place." He said before walking away.

Sheesh. I was never good at talking to people back in my world and I'm still not good at talking here either. I followed him nervously to his house.

~~~
We arrived at the exact replica of Yamcha's house seen in dragon ball. He opened the door with me following him. I walked into the house after him. There were a few furniture here and there but not matching up to a city house. The place wasn't big but the lack of furniture makes the place feel more spacious. "Welcome to my home which is also my hideout." He said as he settled his sword down.
"Nice house." I commented as I continued to take in my surroundings.
"Thanks." Yamcha said. "I usually live alone so I don't exactly have another bed." He said facing me.
"It's alright. I just need something over my head." I said. The sunlight that came through the balcony starts to disappear. The balcony was more like a hole in the wall about 3 meter above ground with a ladder leading to it. A rocky platform outside making the balcony.
"Okay, if you say so." Yamcha said, getting my attention back at him. "It's time to hit the hay." He laid down onto his futon and rolled to his side.
"Goodnight." I said as I laid on the floor uncomfortably. I stared up straight at the ceiling, thinking about the events that happened today. How did all of this happened? It happened so fast. I thought it was the afterlife but suddenly that just took a 360 turn into the dragon ball universe. Sadly, I only watched the major arcs so I lack a lot of information. To think I got all this from simply dying.
Should I tell Yamcha? Maybe I'll tell him tomorrow. Hopefully I could lay it out peacefully to him. Perhaps this is a chance to restart my life the way I wanted. Maybe I could do it right this time.
Maybe.
