"She's always wanted to be perfect. He thinks she's perfect just the way she is." Spoby drabble. Oneshot.

She's always wanted to be perfectperfectperfect.
In her family, it was expected. No room for imperfection.
(that means no flaw, no snag, no crack, no wrinkle. Just absolutely perfect all the time.)
Spencer wears the best clothes (her walk-in closet is packed with Hermes Kelly scarves and Burberry boots and YSL jackets),
She gets the best grades (A after A after A on report card after report card. A f.l.a.w.l.e.s.s. 4.0 GPA, class president, teachers' pet), and
She has wealthy parents, three best friends, and an idyllic life.
What could be better?
(What could be worse?)
Spencer is

g,
And there's no one to catch her.
There are book reports to write, hockey games to attend, secrets to keep.
Every text she receives is breakingbreakingbreaking her.
She suffers horrible nightmares of Alison and Mona and Maya. She fears for her friends and her family and, most of all, for him.
For the love of her life.
Toby. Her rock. Her safe place to land.
Her demons are catching up to her.
Spencer Hastings is not perfectperfectperfect anymore.
She has flaws, snags, cracks, and wrinkles.
But he doesn't care.
When she comes to his loft, salt water raining down her ivory cheeks, dark wavelets mussed and windblown, he takes her in his strong carpenters' arms, and holds her.
She has brokenbrokenbroken.
But he is a carpenter who wears his heart of gold on his sleeve.
He will put her back together, just as he tore down the walls she built over her heart.
"I love you, Spencer. More than anything. And I will always be here."
She tries not to show her weaknesses. Her fears of losing everything.
But somehow, around him, it's okay. Okay to be Spence and not Spencer Jill Hastings.
With each tender kiss, he makes her problems disappear.
He l-o-v-e-s her.
She l-o-v-e-s him.
They are two hearts beating as one, two people who found comfort in each other.
"Toby?"
"Yes, darling?"
"I love you. So much."
"I know. And I love you too."
She hopes they can live h.a.p.p. . e.v.e.r. a.f.t.e.r. That they can banish A and Alison and Jenna and every other obstacle coming between them.
Because their love is truetruetrue and realrealreal.
She's always wanted to be perfectperfectperfect.
The perfect daughter. The perfect student. The perfect friend.
But that is not what life is about.
No matter how many goals you score, what GPA you have, or how many other peoples' problems you try to solve,
life will still throw its curveballs at you.
Being perfect is not important. Being loved is.
Enjoying little moments like watching the sunset or cuddling by the fireplace or sipping hot cocoa—they are what shape your life. They are what give it meaning.
She's always wanted to be perfectperfectperfect.
But he loves her.
He loves her take-charge attitude and her dimpled grin. He loves how she bites her nails and rolls her eyes and curses when she stubs her toes and dances when she thinks no one is looking.
He loves her every flaw, every snag, every crack, and every wrinkle. He loves her imperfections.
Because they make up the love of his life, his beautiful Spencer.
And through every demon, every laugh, every sob, every b-l-e-s-s-i-n-g, every t.r.i.u.m.p.h, and every tragedy, he will always love her. And they will make it through.
Together.
She's always wanted to be perfectperfectperfect.
Toby thinks she's perfect just the way she is.
