Chapter 1

Adeline

I'm sorry that it is so short but basically this is just so that I can find out if everyone likes it and if I should write more and what not. If you have any suggestions on maybe what I should add or what I should get rid of, feel free to leave a review.

(Yes, I realize she doesn't have a name yet but it took me all day to think of one so I just kinda worked around with the story a bit so that it would be added to the second chapter. Sorry about that though.) I'm sorry if I may be slow updating though since I'm now a freshman in high school so I don't really get that much time in my classes to randomly write stories. :P But, I will do the best that I can to keep up the updates to keep everyone happy. .

I wanted to scream. I wanted to scream and make all of the pain that was searing through my body just disappear. Those were the first things that I noticed when I woke up. Instinctively, I tried to look around me to see where I was at, fighting back the scream in my throat at the fresh wave of burning pain and nausea. From what I could make out through the haze that clouded my vision, I was in some kind of abandoned house, though I wasn't quite sure. I faded back into unconsciousness after that.

Though I was unconscious, I could still feel the pain trying to drag me awake. It seemed to last for weeks. Sometimes it would fade away, only to come hitting me with twice the force. Gradually, I became aware that my hearing had increased, though whether or not my eyesight had also increased I wasn't sure as the pain from just trying to open my eyes was too intense. I could hear small noises outside-a bird pecking at a hollow in a tree trying to get at some insect inside- and focused on these trying to concentrate on anything but the pain as it coursed through me.

On what I was pretty sure was the third day (I was getting better at keeping track of time as I became accustomed to the pain, now only a dull feeling) I heard a low, hollow thudding sound. Realizing that it was my heart, I let out a shocked gasp, tears stinging at the pain caused by my sudden gasp. My heart was battling against the source of my pain...and failing. I was going to die.

About an hour passed as I listened to the agonizing sound of my dying heart. Suddenly, all of what was once the dull pain, now excruciating, raced through my body, leaving a tingling sensation behind in my limbs, and focused all at the one remaining living organ in my body, my heart. This new pain (as it was new being on a whole new level from the first) was unbearable. My chest heaved into the air, spasming. Almost as quickly as it had appeared, the pain in my heart vanished. I heart one last sputter and then everything went silent.

Thank you if you did actually decide to read my story and please review and tell me your opinions. (.)(.)
