The bright colors of daylight were gone and replaced by the mystery of the night sky. The moon was full, casting a white light through the bedroom window. The moonlight was one of the few things that can add to her beauty. She was standing in the new lavender dress I bought for her a few hours ago. I smiled at the memory. She went to the store willingly with me but wasn't sure about me paying for her dress. I had explained that I would do anything for her and this was the least I can do.
I walked toward her being unsure if this was a dream. She can surprise me so much I cannot help but think it is not reality. Sometimes, I wondered how a beautiful woman could fall in love with a woods guide. It feels like a real life fairytale. She turned to me as I made my way towards her. I wrapped my arms around her waist and gave her a kiss on her forehead. Her hands were at my chest and soon wrapped around my neck silently asking for another kiss. I smiled and kissed her lips harder this time. I ran my hands through her dark brown hair that looked almost black now.
"Richard?" she asked sounding worried.
"Yes?" I answered, wanting to make the worry go away. She had lost most of her worry when Zedd told us that nothing is more powerful than the love we have for each other. But, of course, I knew that already. It was hard to convince Kahlan because destroying my soul was something she feared very much.
"I just realized something," she bit her lip before continuing. "I can never give you a son for D'Hara".
I furrowed my brow in confusion. Why would she want to give me a son? Then, I remembered. I am the Lord Rahl. There has to be a son to inherit the throne. It was done for thousands of years that way.
"Kahlan, we don't need a son," I said as I brought her hands to my heart. "Our daughter can lead as well as her mother can".
Even though it was dark, I saw her look down and blush. I laughed quietly. She was so adorable when she was complemented.
"She'll get it from her father too," she murmured.
I reached into my pocket for the ring, the ring that will show my eternal love for her. I was waiting for the right moment and this couldn't be more perfect for me. I bent down and asked her the question I've wanted to ask ever since I first met her.
"Kahlan Amnell, will you marry me?"
Her breathing quickened before my words came out. She didn't answer, and instead bent down and kissed me. I wiped the tear that soon escaped from her beautiful blue eyes that showed nothing but love.
"Yes," She said when she pulled away. "I've never wanted anything more in my whole life".
I grinned at hearing her words, happy that she felt the same.
I lifted her hand and placed the ring on her finger. I kissed it and whispered my promise to love her forever. The night was silent except for the sweet promise she made to me that filled the air.
