The Penny Part 3

Lee was extremely silent during their walk to the car, despite Amanda's questioning looks. The
only time she had seen him like this was after the Blackthorn case. To Amanda it seemed he
was holding his breath, not really seeing anything. Just going with the flow.
Lee was going through an internal battle. How could she have done this to him? Pretending to
be dead. Now he knew what Amanda had gone through when he had "died". Lee had buried his
pain in his work and with the seemingly hundreds of women.
Only when they were in the 'vette did he release the breath he hadn't known he was holding.
Amanda reached out and touched his shoulder. "Lee, please talk to me." Lee sighed. She
needed to know.
"Five years ago I was in a accident; it almost killed me. I got out with two broken legs. The
doctors wanted me to take physical therapy but I put it off until Billy made me go."
Amanda grinned that was so like Lee.
"So I went to a gym named Freewill and met a great guy named Daniel. We got to talk and then
he wanted me to meet someone. He introduced me to Christina."
"Agent Bluestone?" Amanda asked.
"Not at the time. She was a choreographer for concerts and things like that. Daniel told me she
was his best boxer there. I didn't believe it; she was so fragile-looking and young, about 20.
Well, she was different."
"What kind of different?" Amanda interrupted.
"She was not at all like your normal woman, and she was gorgeous - long black hair, green-blue
eyes that seemed to look right into your soul, creamy porcelain skin and a great body."
Amanda looked sharply at Lee who gave her a sheepish smile and continued carefully.
"I later learned that she had started coming to the gym after she had been the victim of
attempted rape 7 times."
Amanda's eyes grew large. "Seven times?"
"Yes, Amanda."
They had arrived at the hospital and, after getting her room number, walked down the long white
hall to her room. In front of the room Lee stopped and squeezed Amanda's hand to reassure
him she was there. Amanda squeezed back and opened the door.
To her shock, there was Dr. Smith holding the hand of a beautiful dark-haired girl.
"Sir, why are you here? Um… Not that you shouldn't be, but…"
Dr. Smith ignored her rambling and replied, "This is my daughter".
