A/N: Yet, another idea that came out of nowhere.

Disclaimer: Psh…yeah! I WISH!!

Summary: For Tifa Lockhart, the unexpected occurs. She just never thought it would change her life. (Tifa x ??)

The Storm

1. The Calm

The rain didn't seem like it was going to be stopping any time soon. Or…any time in the next couple of hours, even.

Earlier there had been the brilliant flashes of bright light, piercing the dark gray sky with an ethereal aura. Crashing sounds of nearby thunder followed soon after, making the windows rumble with its clashing intensity. The rain continued to pour, lightly tapping everything on its way down from the sky.

Falling, falling, falling.

---

Tifa let out the breath she hadn't even realized she'd been holding. After a mere two seconds, a great heaving sigh escaped from her lips. Of course, it'd be raining and weather like this only served to deter people from leaving their homes.

Tifa knew what that meant.

Deterred people equaled no customers for Seventh Heaven Bar.

It wasn't as if she were in dire need of the gil; no, that wasn't the case at all. It just didn't hurt to have a little extra currency around, just in case she'd hit a tight spot somewhere down the line. After all, one couldn't be too careful.

The storm wasn't greatly unusual for this time of year in Edge. It might have been one of the more particularly worse storms that Tifa had seen, but nothing to start an all out panic about.

Thank the Gods Marlene and Denzel were off with Barrett in Costa del Sol. Marlene had always been afraid of storms because it reminded her of when Denzel was sick. It was probably an extra sunny day over there, Tifa thought a bit grimly. Yes, it figures that it'd be the complete opposite day for her.

Cloud still wasn't home. He was probably making that last delivery to the last customer; his way of reaching out. The last customer was just as important as the first. No reason to feel worried, although she had been called –on occasion— the 'biggest worry wart' alive. It was Marlene and Denzel who had teased her about it, but all in good nature, of course.

Seventh Heaven Bar continued to remain comfortably silent, save for the soft beat of the rain pattering on the roof and windows. It was starting to make Tifa a bit drowsy, reminding her of her very own cocoon. Cozy, safe, and warm.

Maybe she'd close the bar for the time being. Maybe she'd just rest her eyes for a minute.

Maybe.

Maybe.

Maybe.

Tifa never saw the flash of light that brightly illuminated the now ominously dark sky. The sudden boom of thunder a second later couldn't even startle her enough to realize that something was very, very wrong.

She never stood a chance.
