Cloud and Axel with rain, pumpkins and lollipops
Sweet as Candy
To prep for Halloween, Axel told me to go take a nap while he set everything up so we could attend a party later in the night. We'd been butting heads for a little while now and he thought that it would be a good way to come back to terms with one another. After dating for a year I didn't think we'd ever come so close to splitting up.
For three weeks now I'd lie in bed staring at the ceiling, wondering what had even set whoever off this time. Each time I could never figure it out. I would simply feel distraught that I'd be sleeping in bed and he'd be in the guest room...Sometimes I would pray that he'd be wanting to come into our room as much as I wanted him too. But if Axel could be stubborn, I could be just as bad, maybe even worse.
At first I didn't think I'd be able to sleep throughout the day, he's the nocturnal one, not me. But to keep him happy and let him do his thing, I figured it wouldn't hurt. What I didn't expect was for it to start raining, instantly lulling me into my dreams. Not long later does a cough burn my throat and force me awake. Rubbing at my eyes, I inhale deep.
Something smells funny...like when Axel burnt breakfast. Wait, smoke?
I bolt up in a panic. Instantly beginning to glance around, I find no harm done inside the room. Jumping off the bed, I run down the stairs and dead stop the second the pad of my foot leaves the last step, I freeze.
Every light in the house is off save for the faint glow coming from the quartet of pumpkins sitting on the living room table. An eye is carved into the first, a heart in the second, the letter 'u' in the third, and a nicely drawn cloud in the last.
The message is what I need to know.
Continuing forward, the smell of burning wood fills my nose. Striding through the doorway, I spot the source of the conflicting smells.
A battery powered lamp hangs on the wall overlooking the gas stove. Crimson spikes cascade down past his shoulders and they sway as he pushes the door of the stove shut with his red leather clad knee. Stepping forward, I wrap my arms around his waist, feeling the black satin vest resting over his long sleeved wine red shirt. "Already in costume?" I breathe against his ear. "Nice pumpkins."
A grin shows through his words, "I was trying to keep it warm in since the power went out over the whole city. The batteries in that lamp are dying too." He turns around in my embrace, letting those emerald eyes shine in the dim light. "Go get your costume on so we can go to the party." The peck leaves my lips tingling for more. "That is unless you wanna stay home."
Smirking at the redhead, I lean forward, "You can read my mind Axel."
Before my mouth can get any closer, Axel reaches around and slips a lollipop into his mouth. I ran a hand through my tussled blonde spikes and sigh. My cerulean battle his electric green as he removes the hard candy from his sticky lips. "Alright Cloud, you win but you owe me since I dressed up all sexy just for it."
"Whatever you say."
Brushing away stray tresses from the violet reverse teardrop that rests under each eye, I place a kiss on his sugary lips, licking my own as I pull back. "You're as sweet as any candy, Axel."
"Yeah, yeah I know."
