Alone.
It burned.
The bullet entering his chest that is.
In the midst of Jeffrey shooting up the courtroom, Will never suspected that he would end up with a bullet in his chest, lying against Finn.
Will looked down at his chest, watching the blood seep through his shirt. A very expensive Valentino button-down which easily cost in the three figures. But none of that mattered.
It became more difficult to breathe. Will found himself struggling to breathe, his breaths becoming more shallow.
Panic set in Will's mind and his heart began to race. "Is this it?" he thought as he watched the blood seep further and further on his shirt.
Will barely registered Kalinda's voice calling out for him, never mind her shouting for an ambulance.
The pain grew sharper, stronger. Will could barely catch his breath. All he could think of was Alicia.
'Alicia… oh Alicia.'
They say right before you die your life flashes before your eyes. For Will, all he could think of was one of the final encounters he had with Alicia. The coffee shop. Where he was undeniably cruel. At the time he felt that she deserved it. Her betrayal hurt him to the core. After everything he had ever done for her… everything they shared together. He was angry. He never thought there would be a time in which Alicia would not be in his future. 'Now,' he realized, 'I won't be in hers.'
"Ka..kalin…" Will tried to speak, finding it hard to do. He coughed, blood spraying Kalinda's face.
"Sshhh... just hold on Will. Help is on the way." Kalinda spoke through tears, as she wiped his hair back.
Will closed his eyes, his breathing having slowed exponentially. He felt himself growing colder. He did not have much time. He thought of Alicia's smile. He felt warm again but if only for a nanosecond.
He coughed some more. "Kalinda… tell… Alicia…" Will struggled to speak. Kalinda opened her mouth to speak but was soon pushed away by the paramedics. Will was loaded onto a stretcher with Kalinda running behind. "I'm with him," he heard her speak.
On the way to the hospital, Will's heart failed twice. Twice he was resuscitated. But he knew he was on borrowed time. As his heart failed once more in the emergency room, Will's final thoughts were how he wished could tell Alicia that he not only loved her but that he forgave her.
Instead, he lied dying. Alone. Without Alicia.
