Fai sits alone, gazing at the foreign constellations in Kurogane's country. Rather than focusing his mind on the stars above, all thoughts trail back to that man, their journey, their wishes individual and otherwise—but mostly that man.
He had wished the opposite of Kurogane, desiring travel and new worlds opposed to returning home. Fai had held no fantasies of a fairytale ending; he knew one day they would part, him running away while Kurogane staid.
Neither had much choice now, however. Not if they wanted to live.
Those really were their choices, after everything—part ways and die or stick by each other's side until the end.
Unless Fai got his magic back, but he held no expectations of such.
So, they were destined to be companions, he and Kurogane. Poetic or tragic, Fai is unsure, but the key word is together.
And all this time he had tried not to get attached, then Kurogane had to go and bind them in such a way. It strikes Fai as ironic, and he stifles the urge to let out a bitter chuckle.
There is a presence in the room, yet Fai does not turn around, not even when the intruder speaks.
"You're thirsty."
There is no question about it, Kurogane knows him too well.
Fai faces the darker man only after he has used a sword to slice his wrist. The fair haired one cannot resist, indeed hungering for Kurogane's, his prey's, blood. He goes to the other, takes the leaking appendage in his grasp, and laps like a cat with milk.
A grin, grim and rueful, comes to his lips as he sucks at the wound eagerly until he's had his fill. Fai licks stray droplets from Kurogane's arm, tongue teasing the skin beneath. The other man does nothing, bats no eyelid, does not move. He only stares down at Fai.
Fai is reminded of a parent making sure his child eats everything off his plate, and the blonde stands back and says with one of those smiles he use to give all the time back towards the beginning of their journey, "Thank you, daddy."
Fai is surprised that Kurogane does not get angered by his words that usually, once upon a time, riled him up so. Instead, the hand Fai fed from reaches up and gently touches his cheek.
For a brief moment the shock is evident on Fai's face. Then, a smile reappears—this one more genuine, more open—and he nuzzles into Kurogane's palm.
