A Brother's Goodbye
For Amy-Lynn
There was blood everywhere, and only two remained. It had been almost five years since they last saw each other, since he savedhis brother from the ultimate bondage, but he was different, they both were. Naruto looked a Sasuke, but it was not a look of anger, hate, or even resent. He looked at Sasuke, with an apologetic gaze, as if to say I'm sorry I couldn't save you again, I'm sorry you hate me, I'm sorry it has to end like this. Sasuke hadn't seen that look from Naruto since he saved him from Orochimaru all those years ago. With one foul swoop, Naruto threw the last of his kunai at Sasuke, but it was useless, his chakra was gone, and there would be no one to save him. No one to arrive at the last minute, no one to make everything better, and it was over.
Sasuke with lightening spend rushed Naruto, grabbing his neck, Sasuke held Naruto several inches above the ground. Looking down in defeat, Naruto turned to the left, he saw the girl he had loved since they were only kids, her beautiful pink blush hair saturated in a crimson sea of blood: Sakura Haruno has ceased to exist. To the right, the man that had been a father to him, his face no longer covered from the mask, the mask that had always hidden the secrets to his past. Kakashi's silver star colored hair drenched in blood, and his flawless porcelain face smeared with dirt and sweat. Naruto finally looked at Sasuke yet again.
"I'm sorry Naruto, but you're only in my way," Sasuke finally spoke.
"It's alright Sasuke," Naruto whispered.
"I want you to know something," Sasuke said. "You were like the brother I should have had."
"You're the first and best friend I've ever had," Naruto confessed.
"—goodbye—Uzumaki Naruto" Sasuke said; he used a more formal language as if to break off all emotional ties, as if to block the pain that he was about to feel.
"Goodbye—Sasuke," Naruto said. "Answer me one question—why?" Naruto asked.
"Because—I have too," Sasuke said in defeat.
