It was a cold, wet evening and Marissa Cooper was having a sleepover. The fire was dancing merrily and three girls were stuffing their faces with sweets, crisps and chocolate. Marissa's friends, Summer Roberts and Jennifer Morgan, were laughing at a really funny joke Marissa had just told. Then Summer stopped laughing.

"Oh my gosh, Coop, what was that sound!" Marissa just laughed.

"Oh, come on, Sum, stop it. You're just trying to scare me!"

Summer shook her head. Jennifer looked terrified.

"Honestly, Coop, I just heard something bang at the window! No joke!"

They were alone in the house. Julie and Jimmy Cooper were gone away for the week and Marissa had the house to herself.

"Yeah, Riss, I heard it too." Jennifer piped up. Marissa shook her head.

"It was probably just the wind!" Marissa said. Summer nodded her head, but Jennifer looked uncertain.

Marissa looked at Jennifer.

"Come on, Jenny, just enjoy the party."

So they did. They played Scrabble and they just talked, mostly about guys. Summer had a boyfriend, Taylor, but she really liked a guy called Seth Cohen. Marissa was madly in love with Ryan Atwood but they barely talked and Jennifer had a boyfriend. His name was Trey Atwood.

At 10.00pm Summer suggested they play a game of Truth or Dare. Everyone agreed.

"Ok, Jen, I dare you to go out on to the street, in the pouring rain, and shout "I LOVE TREY ATWOOD!"

Jennifer smiled. She got up, without a word, and ran downstairs. She went out on to the street. There was silence and then there was a scream.

"Aaahhhhh!"

Summer laughed.

"I didn't tell her just to scream, I told her to scream "I love Tr…" Summer was interrupted by another scream from Jennifer. Marissa looked scared.

"I think she's in trouble Summer!" Marissa and Summer got up and ran downstairs and opened the front door. Jennifer was nowhere to be seen.

"Jennifer! Jen! Jenny! Where are you? It's not funny anymore! Please Jenny come out now!" Summer and Marissa were out on the streets looking for Jennifer. Marissa had gone back into her house and grabbed coats and torches. She locked her front door and Summer and herself began to look for Jennifer.

"Oh my gosh, Summer, what happened to her. I should have listened to you and Jenny when you said about the noise at the window! It was probably ….." but Summer interrupted her.

"Oh my God, Coop, I just remembered something! Jenny told me earlier today that she's been getting threatening letters and phone calls. I told her to ignore them. We thought it was just someone messing. But it obviously wasn't … EWW!" Summer stood on a dead bird.

By now they had been walking for a ten minutes. Where was Jennifer?

Then they heard footsteps running behind them.

Summer looked at Marissa and on impulse they both began to run. As fast as possible.
