[HEARTBREAK WARFARE]
Tenzin told me not to go to bars. "Alcohol will restrict your abilities, and could possibly block your way into the avatar state." His lecture kept bouncing around in my head as I motioned for the bartender to bring me two more shots of tequila. I downed each of them greedily. Ever since Mako and Asami kissed when the Fire Ferrets won the tournament, I hadn't spoken much to him or Bolin; I had turned in my uniform the next day.
I called for another shot, but when the bartender slid it over to me, a pale hand grabbed it before I could. Frowning, I looked up into Tahno's eyes; the shade had become ever so familiar, especially since I started frequenting the bar. He smiled softly and sat on the stool beside mine, passing the tequila shot back to me. I drank it in one glup, not caring how his eyes raked over me as I did so. I knew I must look pathetic; I had lost my man to a gorgeous, rich city girl, and dediced to drown my sorrows in liquor.
"You come here a lot." He was the one who instigated the conversation. I had seen him here multiple times before, even if from a distance.
"Nowhere else to go."
"Not the gym with your team?"
"I quit a week ago."
"Mm, must have put the Fire Ferrets in a bit of a predicatment."
"I don't even care. Mako deserves it."
"And the earthbender boy?"
"He took Mako's side; he'd rather see him with Asami so he could have a shot with me."
Tahno clicked his tongue. "Ah, love triangles; gorgeous things are they." He looked to the bartender. "Send us a round; rum and tequila, please. All of her shots tonight are on me."
I snorted, somewhat appreciative, as another shot made its way in front of me. Instead of drinking it quickly, I sipped it, not wanting to get too drunk and not wanting to make Tahno spend too much on me. "They're not too gorgeous when you're in one."
"You never told me that you quit the 'Ferrets," Tahno stated, choosing to gulp down his shot to emphasize the statement. "Do you want another shot at pro-bending? Our firebender quit after we lost our running in the championship, and we do need a new one."
"As long as I get to kick Mako's ass in the next tournament, I'll join." I knew it was probably the alcohol talking. Normally I would never dream about fighting against the Fire Ferrets, the team that introduced me to modern bending-even if I really did want to throw a nice fireball in Mako's direction.
"Perfect," Tahno purred. "You'll be a great addition to the Wolfbats, and I know you'd rather be doing firebending-the element you love most-than being stuck as a replacement waterbender." The liquor in my shot glass swirled at the movement of Tahno's fingers. I watched the movement of his fingers more than the spin of the liquid in my glass, and as he was talking, I let my eyes drift up to his face, taking in the curve and shape of his lips. They looked better than Mako's, more kissable.
"Hey, Tahno?"
"Mm?"
"Thanks for listening to my problems." I leaned in and kissed him. The alcohol made me even more impulsive than I already was; Tahno didn't seem to mine. His lips curved up into a smile before he kissed back, letting his right hand snake around to cradle the back of my head.
And in that moment, I stopped caring about the Fire Ferrets. I stopped moping over Mako, and I stopped feeling guilty for turning my back on Bolin; all I cared about was Tahno.
