Arachnophobia By: Ninoandjaffar

After a long day of fighting the Black Fang, going to bed feels really good. Jaffar entered the tent he and Nino shared and collapsed into his cot to rest for a moment.

Sitting back up, he looked over to Nino. The little green haired girl was already fast asleep. He couldn't blame her; she was only fourteen years old after all. She was really too young to be fighting.

Jaffar started to scan the tent's layout. While with the Black Fang, he learned the habit of checking his surroundings. He saw Nino's cot with herself and her pack on it. On his own cot sat himself and the pack he carried around.

A brown spider started to slowly crawl across the floor of the tent. Fear soon over came Jaffar, causing him to jump onto the post of his cot. He balanced on the small bar reaching for a dagger. If he could just throw it right…

It soared onto the ground, stabbing the floor with a thump. The spider, noticing the dagger, quickly ran towards Nino's bed out of fear.

The little girl was startled awake by the sound. She sat up and looked around the room. She became even more puzzled when she saw the fear on Jaffar's face.

"What happened?!" She yelled to him.

"Sp-spider." He quietly spoke to her.

She contemplated this a moment, than calmed down. She spotted the spider on the floor near her cot. Nino slowly lowered her hand onto the ground, palm up. The spider carefully examined her hand, than crawled onto it. She gently lifted it to her eye level.

"Well, aren't you a cute little guy?" She kindly said to it.

Jaffar went from fear to confusion. How could she just calmly pick it up…and than address it so…calmly?

"I'm sorry you have to meet such a fate, but, my friend needs you gone. So, Bye, little buddy." A small flame burst into her hand, killing the spider instantly.

She turned her head to Jaffar. His puzzled expression was still visible leaving her confused as well.

"Jaffar, are you…afraid of spiders?" She asked him slowly.

He gave an almost silent sigh. "Yes…"

Nino sat for a second, than burst into laughter. Jaffar raised an eye-brow at this reaction. She collected herself to address her friend.

"Don't worry. I'll protect you from the spiders." She smiled to him with her trademark smile.

Jaffar, amazingly, gave her a small hint of a smile as well. Both he and Nino crawled back into the cots and fell asleep.

Author's ending comments: Sorry about the horrible and abrupt ending. If you have a better ending to it, I'm all ears.
