Making Real Love
A/N- Just a little one shot I thought I'd put together with this quote from early season 3. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Bones, Brennan, Booth or this quote, though who wouldn't to own David Boreanaz!!
"Here we are, all of us basically lone, separate creatures just circling each other, all searching for that slightest hint of a real connection."
Brennan looked out her office window at Booth as he crossed the lab to talk to Hodgins. Something in the way he walked told her he had bad news. The corners of his mouth were pressed back and his forehead looked stern.
"Some look in the wrong places, some they just give up hope, because in their mind they think: 'Oh, there is nobody out there for me.'"
She quickly shook her head and turned back to her desk. If Booth had bad news, then it was even more important that she focus on her work. Distractions were absolutely unacceptable and this case was of the highest importance.
Back at her desk Brennan went back to work. Deeply absorbed in eliminating possible crime scenes from a list of locations she didn't even hear him arrive in her doorway.
"But all of us we keep trying over and over again. Why? Because every once in a while two people meet and there is that spark."
He spoke and she looked up abruptly. Words spilled from his mouth and somehow Brennan followed the conversation, offering opinions and vital facts to aid Booth in the search for the killer. The exchange went as always: Brennan said something intelligent. Booth was confused. She explained it only to be met with the resistance of her knowledge. He said something witty and she giggled, finding a unique utopia in his laughing eyes.
"And yes Bones, he is handsome and she is beautiful and maybe that's all they see at first,"
In her mind though, Brennan was far from engaged. There was something intense in his eyes when he talked to her that wasn't there with anyone else. His touch was a blanket of protection, shielding her from the most dangerous of enemies and the scariest of feelings; a blanket that had never let her down. Then there was his smile. The one smile that never failed to make her thoughts and worries melt away.
" …but making love, making love, that's when two people become one."
They decided to follow a new trail of clues left by the murderer. Brennan managed to pull her eyes from his long enough to grab her bag and cell phone before following Booth to his car. Maybe they didn't need to be together to be with one another. Love could wait. They were off to catch the bad guy together. Two people together as one team.
