Prologue: The Illusionary Mercenary
The leader of the Jackal squad, called 'The Ultimate Mercenary" by many is a black jackal, with some white stripes and white dreadlocks. His left eye is yellow and his right one is blue, which is what makes him stand out. He also wore black shoes. As the captain of the squad, he leads the group.
One day, the Jackal squad was heading towards Eggman's base for a raid. It went well, but it wasn't successful, per se. Eggman was impressed by the leader and hired him to become to leader of Eggman army.
The Ultimate Mercenary was protecting Eggman's base when he saw an ebony hedgehog. He jumped over pillars towards the figure. The ebony hedgehog had red irises and red stripes on his quills. He had white fur on his chest. He wore black, red and gold coloured shoes and looked incapable to look happy. The jackal wasn't threatened at all. He was overcome by anger. The hedgehog, who was called Shadow, was the one that killed every other member of the jackal squad. The mercenary remembered this clearly and was starving for revenge. Shadow talked first, he acknowledged him as the leader of the squad and insulted said squad. Infinite's anger rose and shouted at the hedgehog. "YOU! You were the one that destroyed my squad! Now it's time for me to show you why they call me The Ultimate Mercenary!" With that, said mercenary charged at Shadow.
Shadow was capable of using chaos powers and learned how to do them silently, so he teleported out of the way. The mercenary never experienced something like that before so he looked around, confused. Suddenly, Shadow appeared behind him and kicked him into the air. Shadow teleported with the jackal and hit him back down. While he was going, Shadow kicked the jackal one more time, the jackal landed in a bunch of rocks. "Worthless, just like the rest of them," Shadow said. "Don't show your pathetic face around here ever again." With that, Shadow teleported away.
The Ultimate Mercenary realized he was shaking, which has never happened before. He only got hit a few times, but the hits were HARD. "Shaking? Me? Am I afraid? ... how?" The jackal was confused. He then realized he missed his chance for revenge and got even angrier. "He thinks I'm weak?" The jackal questioned. "NO! I'm not weak! I'm not... I'm not weak! I AM NOT WEAK! ARRGGGH!" The mercenary was too angry to realize he was overreacting and went back to the nearby base.
The jackal took a gray mask and put it on, turning his blue eye completely back, and his right eye red, except for his iris. He placed a pink ruby, called the Phantom Ruby, in his chest. He immediately felt reborn. It felt good to be rid of his unsightly face, and his entire body became completely black. He got powers, and they're just like your body, you know how to use them, but because you just got them, you can cause huge problems with them. The jackal now called himself 'Infinite'. And now wanted everyone to either yield to his will, or die. This was the most important day of his life, but it was just like any other day for Shadow, who just realized he should've just killed the former mercenary while he had the chance.
A bunch of robots were approaching a few mobians, with Tails in the front. Tails was a golden fox with light blue eyes. He had a white muzzle and three bangs at the top of his head. He wore red shoes with a white edge. What stood out most about him was his two tails, hence the nickname. Tails could fly with those tails. Also, Tails' real name is Miles. Tails got into a fighting stance when the robots came close, but suddenly Sonic, a cobalt hedgehog who wore red sneakers with golden straps, jumped over a nearby house and homing attacked all of the robots, destroying them. "Is everyone here okay?" He asked. "Yeah, but you kinda stole my targets." Tails answered. "That's how I roll." Sonic replied.
Suddenly, Infinite slowly descended before Sonic as Tails evacuated the other citizens. "Tails, this guy looks pretty strong. I think I can handle this, but don't try to save me, even if I got a heart attack while fighting or I'm about to get taken to Eggman's lair to get roboticized, I don't what you getting hurt." Sonic told the fox. Tails nodded as Sonic charged at Infinite. The jackal simply went out of the way in time. "Whoa! This guy is faster than Sonic!" Tails yelled as he grabbed his communicator to scan Infinite, trying to be as useful to Sonic as possible.
Suddenly, old villains appeared in the scene, to Sonic and Tails' dismay. Sonic got beaten up and eventually knocked out. Tails was about to run at the hedgehog to save him but then remembered what he said. 'Don't try to save me. I don't want you getting hurt.' The fox fled the scene.
Infinite teleported Sonic to the Death Egg and followed. Infinite handcuffed Sonic, waking him up in the progress. "Now, the fun truly begins, blue savior." Infinite said, without any kind of emotion in his voice. Sonic was scared for the first time of his life. "Y-you better let me go this i-i-instant!" He tried to threaten the jackal. "Threats don't work on me. And I can clearly hear the fear in your voice." Infinite spoke. "Okay. W-w-w-w-w-w-what are you going to do to me?" "This might hurt just a little bit, but it'll be fun for me." With that, Infinite summoned red cubes and constantly threw them at Sonic, more and more at a time.
Sonic clenched his teeth trying not to give Infinite any satisfaction in the beginning, but quickly realized that wouldn't work. Eventually, Infinite got bored of doing this and tried a different way of torture. Rinse and repeat for 6 months. After a long time of torture in day one, Infinite announced he was going to "not leave the fox out of the fun." 'Please be okay, Tails.' Sonic thought as Infinite teleported away.
Tails had told others the bad news, and they claimed an abandoned underground room and called it their base. They create a group to stop Infinite called "The Resistance", Knuckles being the commander, despite being one of the most gullible members. Infinite teleported in and teleported everyone except Tails away before they could react. Tails was speechless and just stared at Infinite with wide eyes, Infinite returning a cold, lifeless stare. The fox tried to flee the room, but got lifted up with telekinesis, so he couldn't escape. Infinite created a sort of screen in front of Sonic, forcing the hedgehog to watch his best friend getting tortured. Sonic immediately got a bad, no, terrible feeling.
"Let the fun begin." Infinite announced. "Sonic experienced this too, but I don't want to leave you out on the fun." Sonic got scared for his best friend, who was just eight years old. He also got a bit angry. The hedgehog tried to break the handcuffs so he could save the kid from experiencing torture at his age, but the handcuffs, being illusions, were just too strong. Infinite tied up Tails in a similar way he handcuffed Sonic. Tails screamed in pain with every hit, and Sonic resisted to urge to do the same, as if he felt the same pain as him. Tails didn't get tortured as much, though. Infinite tortured every member of the resistance once over the course of the 6 months.
