Broken friendship
They were best friends! Edward of Knighton and Harry of Winchester. You never saw one without the other. It was happy days; riding off in the morning, spending all day trying to get away from their menservants. Imaginary swordfights with wooden swords. As they grew older their playing slowly turned into real training. Still, even as years went by they were always best friends.
Sometimes Kate would come and watch their training. Kate was pretty. No, not just pretty, she was beautiful and so different from her older brother and sister, Vaysey and Davina, who always bullied the other children, enjoying making them cry.
As they grew both Edward and Harry fell hopelessly in love with the kind and beautiful girl. And she did turn heads, with her sparkling green eyes and long flowing dark hair. Davina was deadly jealous of her younger sister, believing it to be purely her looks that made the boys prefer the younger of the two sisters, not realizing that it was also Kate's kind nature.
So Edward and Harry, as well as a lot of other young men, kept fancying Kate. Vaysey and Davina kept bullying everybody and Kate kept on liking both Edward and Harry as friends and trying to stop her older siblings harassing everybody. Things, however, were slowly starting to change as Kate and Edward slowly spent more and more time in each other's company. While Harry began to earn accept by Vaysey and Davina, finding pleasure in other people's pain.
When Kate and Edward finally got engaged everybody was congratulating them. Everybody except Vaysey, Davina and Harry. Harry was mad that she'd chosen his best friend over him and Vaysey and Davina thought it would be much better if their sister married Harry. To be honest they were also jealous at her; no one ever dreamed about marrying any of them. Who would dream about marrying anyone who bullies other people?
When Edward and Harry met again Edward was in a dungeon in Nottingham castle, because he'd dared to speak up against sheriff Vaysey, while Harry was sheriff of Winchester and one of the Black Knights, bound to kill King Richards. A friendship which had started so happy had turned sour simply because they'd both fallen in love with the same woman.
