As Ami ran into the water, she didn't look very happy. In fact, she looked miserable. Sitting in the sun, I felt happy. I walked over to her in her spot on the sand.
"Konnichiwa Ami-chan." I said.
" Oh, hello Mamo-chan, I didn't see you there."
" You know Ami, your face looks about the same shade of blue as your hair."
"Umm..... alright....." ( * * );
" Alright, that was a cheesy joke, but seriously, what's wrong?" I asked.
As we sat in the sun, the silence was deafening. I didn't get an answer.
" Okay Ames, whats up? You seem completely depressed." I still did not get an answer. " Do you want to talk to Usa- chan? She's your friend."
" No offense, but Usa's not the brightest bulb on the tree. She wouldn't understand." Ami said harshly.
" Oh, I get it--"I started.
" No you don't, you're perfect. You never have any problems." she said, "just go away."
I waited for her to say more, but she didn't. A c loud covered up the sun. It seemed like forever waiting for something to say. My girlfriend's friend and I were quite alike. both of us wanted to be doctors and both of us lost our fathers, in my case , my mother as well. As I pondered this, I watched as Ami's blue hair blew in the ocean breeze.
"Ami, I've had my fair share of problems too. What do you think it's like not knowing who your parents are, having to fend for yourself your entire life, and having to live all, all alone. I hated it. All of the kids at school thought I was some sort of freak. Life was bleak and gray, until you guys and Usa came into my life like shining stars. Then I realized that you never are alone." I said with tears in my eyes. I needed to get that out.
"Gomen nasai Mamo-chan. I just--"Ami said and stopped.
" What is it Ami-chan? You know can tell me."
" Yesterday at juku (cram school), We were practicing using adjectives by describing people."Ami said." The only one they could come up with for me was smart."she said as she burst out crying.
" I can come up with a lot more, likem pretty, kind happy and friendly. They don'tknow youlike we do. People used to treat me like that too."
