It was December 20, 2012 at 11:30 pm Shawn was about to leave Psych for the night since he'd just finished a case with the SBPD. That's when Juliet pulled up. He was lucky because that meant he didn't have to call for a cab this late. She slammed the car door shut. From the Psych window Shawn could see tears streaming down Jules's face. He knew the case had been tough on everyone since Vick's husband had confessed to murdering Iris, but he'd never seen her cry like she was doing in that moment. This was a serious Shawn moment. He couldn't be his usual playful self if he was going comfort his girlfriend.
Shawn walked outside in to the misting rain and wrapped his arms around Juliet. He kissed her forehead and ran a hand through her hair as she cried her eyes out. "It's okay, Sweetie. Iris is probably dancing around up in heaven right now. She's an angel who just got her wings a little early. It's okay" Juliet looked up at him and whispered "That's not it" before turning away. He couldn't believe what he'd just heard. Shawn could think of nothing that would be upsetting Juliet at first, but, soon enough, it clicked. "Doomsday? That isn't real, you know?"
Juliet continued crying as Shawn scooped her up and took her inside. Once out of the rain, he set her down on the couch and brought a blanket to her. He sat down by her and held her as she explained her fears.
"Shawn it's just that there are so many things I've wanted to do, and although I wasn't scared before, I've become really paranoid in the last few hours because I realized I may not be able to. I'm sorry. I know you probably think my crying is stupid, but I don't mean to bother you. Maybe I should go." Juliet said before starting to tug away, but Shawn wasn't letting her go.
"I've got an idea, honey. Let's say we go back to our house. We'll have a romantic movie marathon with all the movies we have, I'll order some Thai food, and we can play Monopoly, the shortened version, a time or two." Juliet shook her head and mouthed the words 'Think about it, Shawn.' He felt horrible as soon as he understood. She'd always wanted a few kids and to be married one day.
Shawn felt horrible because he realized in that moment she truly wanted those things with him, but out of respect for her dad he'd never be able to propose to her without telling her his secret and ruining the entire basis of their relationship. He knew exactly what he had to do.
