I Need You

Author's note: This is set in a slightly AU I guess you could say...Tifa and Cloud broke up, Vincent and Tifa fell in love, then he left. (That's the short version) Based on some roleplaying plus me being depressed about pistachios...

Tifa walked slowly as she went, taking in every little detail of her surroundings though still somehow completely absorbed in her own thoughts. It had been nearly six months since she had last visited this place. She hadn't thought herself strong enough before now. The time she had spent trying to heal her emotional wounds had been long and difficult; even the tiniest reminder of him had sent her back to the very beginning, all of her progress gone within an excruciating instant. But time had past and she had grown. Whatever pain the memories brought she knew would be a welcome break from the emptiness she felt in his absence.

Her eyes surveyed the clearing almost cautiously. She knew that at any moment, the tears would come, just as they had so many times before. Everything was just the same as it had been the last time she had been there…the night he had proposed to her. The happiest day of her life. The same lonely tree, the soft green grass, the sparkling stars. Even the moon seemed to intent on recreating that evening, shining fully above her and illuminating her features, glowing in its last phase. There was only one key difference, but it was the most important aspect of all: him.

He had been everything to her, her world, her heaven, her life. She wouldn't be alive if it weren't for him. She had sacrificed her very life for him and yet… he had still managed to save her somehow. And then he had left without so much as a word and her world had come crashing down around her.

She could feel the cold, salty tears falling from her eyes. She was powerless to stop the,. The overwhelming memories of him hit her stronger than she had anticipated and she crumpled to her knees with the sheer weight of it all. Strangled sobs escaped her throat as she curled up in agony. Her eyes squeezed shut and she wished for the darkness to swallow her up. If there truly were a heaven, she knew he would be there waiting for her with open arms.

As the cold wind hit herm her sobs grew louder than before. She remembered a time when he would have never let her be cold…a time when he would have given his life just to make her comfortable.

He was gone though. He was never coming back and she knew that. The only she could do as she drifted into unconsciousness was whisper through her sobs the one name that brought her comfort.

"Vincent…"
