Chapter 1- I Will Not Give Up

At the start of day, I woke up to a new beginning. The clouds were floating in the sky, and the breeze was as nice as it should be. The day grew warmer, sweat dripping down my face. I had to train harder if I ever wanted to become a Soul Reaper.

It seemed like every day continued to grow shorter and shorter. I was tired after a hard day's worth of training. I hoped that someday I would be able to avenge my parents who died while on a mission in the World of the Living. They were Soul Reapers.

I grabbed my water and headed back to my shelter within West Rukongai. I've been training my hardest all day with little food to eat and no one to train with. As I walked through the district I felt the gaze of others clawing at my flesh, like I was special. I guess I was in a way because of the powers I've learned from my parents.

When I reached my shelter I threw my stuff on the ground, and laid down for a rest. The day was exhausting and I had to get some food soon before I starved myself. Souls aren't supposed to get hungry, but if you're different and have high spiritual pressure then you do.

I lied there and stared at the sky for a while, then once I gained back a little energy I got up to my feet and walked back into where the food was sold. My parents left me their money to survive, but I'm sure that once I become a Soul Reaper, it won't be needed.

I practiced kendo, hakuda, zanjutsu, and kidou almost every day. It was tiring but once I turned ten years old I made my decision. Today I would apply for Soul Reaper Academy. Then I could find a way to avenge my parents' deaths.

My name is Kaoru Suzuki. I'm ten years old, and I have medium length blonde hair and red eyes. I currently reside in West Rukongai and am soon to be a student at Soul Reaper Academy. No matter what happens, I will not give up.

The tide turned when I joined Soul Reaper Academy. And I believed I wouldn't regret coming here. I had my own dorm, my schedule was running just fine, and I was already at the top of the class. I kept my mind toward success, and nothing would get in my way. I didn't care if others thought different of me, but I was like no other. That only applied to how I was like on the inside.

There was a girl in my class, maybe my age, who looked like me. Her hair looked just the same way, and it was blonde just like mine. She had the prettiest purple eyes, just like my mother's. Someday we'll meet…no one knows how, but I can sense that it will happen.

She sat next to a boy with spiky black hair. I'm guessing he was about a year older than her. They sat next to each other every single day, and from the looks of it they were really good friends. Whenever I saw them in the hallways they were always together, she seemed to like him a lot. I can tell from the look of it that he liked her a lot too.
