AN - So, I've never written a story that's been inspired by a picture. However, there is a first time for everything. This is written for The Hogwarts Talent Show Competition. I chose The Dark Ages, by Jonas De Ro. It reminded me instantly of Hogsmead, with the castle in the background. I hope you enjoy :)
Flash Of Lightning
Severus walked through the middle of the abandoned street. He kept his hand tightly wrapped around his wand. The only light was that of the moon and it was casting shadows everywhere he looked. Enemies stalked around him, even as he walked alone. His past victims flitted around him alternately whispering words of hate and disgust, and begging and pleading for their lives.
His eyes on the castle ahead of him, he walked with purpose, refusing to show the fear he was feeling. He watched as a flash of lightning crossed the sky, a dark omen if you asked him.
He didn't know why he was here. If he had any sense, he would run away, far away, where no one could ever find him again. He'd caused the death of the Dark Lord. The Death Eaters would be after him, he knew. It was only a matter of time.
Of course, the light sided wouldn't be any more forgiving. He'd caused the deaths of Lily and James Potter.
He didn't know which one was worse.
Another flash of lightning caused an internal shiver to wrack through his body. Severus was sure that whatever awaited him at the castle couldn't be good. He'd reached the gates, and still he didn't release the hold on his wand. The logical side of him knew that the Death Eaters baying for his blood wouldn't reach him here, but inside those walls, he didn't know what was awaiting.
Fear of the unknown was so much worse than knowing your fears.
The doors at the main entrance of Hogwarts creaked open, and Dumbledore stood awaiting him. In his arms, a bundle wrapped in blue. Severus reached him, curious as to what the old man was holding. He looked down.
Green Eyes.
Black Hair.
And a third flash of lightning.
