It was one of those rare days that happen in the United Kingdom when the sun shines bright and warm in the usually cold and grey months that span from October till May, and onwards if it's a particularly miserable year.

Today was one of those days. The 23rd of February to be precise.

As it was such an unexpectedly lovely day, almost the entire student-body of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry could be found outside lounging on blankets in small groups and large.

The sensible ones had taken their textbooks with various pieces of parchment and quills strewn around them.

The rest were either sunbathing, chatting or in the case of quite a few first years running around screaming in delight as they played with a Fanged Frisbee which none of the prefects could muster enough energy to confiscate from them. Plus it was pretty entertaining to watch, especially after it swooped particularly low and off course and almost balded a gossipy third year who flung herself very dramatically out of the way, throwing herself onto several of her friends, taking them down as well.

However Lily Evans and James Potter were completely oblivious to this, wrapped thickly in their own world.

"So, Evans, what was it you wanted to ask me?" James asked, with a small smirk that infuriated Lily to no end, this was hard enough already.

"Well, it's a Hogsmede weekend next week," she started staring down at the grass as she pulled it up strand by strand.

"Really?" James asked his smirk growing, until he received a firm thump on the arm.

"Yes, it is." Lily ploughed on, she had made him promise at the start of the year to not ask her out, she hadn't in her wildest nightmares imagined that it would come around to bite her. Well that was what she had told herself at the time, now she looked back she realised she had been slowly falling for James Potter for an awful long time.

"Cool," James commented flicking through his Herbology textbook, which Lily had forced him to bring even though they still had months till their N.E.W.T. exams started.

"Yes, so... I was wondering if... maybe...if you weren't doing anything? Didn't already have any plans, that is. Maybe you would..." She scrambled on, realising very quickly that it was even harder that she could have imagined, or all her practicing in the mirror and with Sirius, could have prepared her for.

"Well, I was planning on going with the guys like usual but then again Anna Greengrass is looking particularly fine today, so I might just ask her out." James joked rubbing his hand through his hair as he grinned, watching Lily out the corner of his eye. His hand stopped as he saw fuming face, he may have pushed it too far. But, then again, he always did with her.

"You are making this difficult on purpose James Potter!" Lily growled leaping up, her hand dusting off her skirt automatically. "Well, I don't want to ask you anymore." Before James could quite comprehend what was happening she was striding away, across the grass.

"Oi, Ollie!" Lily hollered to a particularly good-looking Ravenclaw, in her year, who smiled back at her and gave a wave.

"Do you want to go to Hogs-" Before Lily could finish asking the boy she was spun round and her lips where captured by a completely different boy. It didn't matter that Ollie was currently dating, and had been for 2 years, Alicia Day, a fellow Ravenclaw 7th year, James wasn't going to let Lily ask anyone out other than him every again if he had any say in it.

Currently, though, he wasn't saying anything, in fact his lips where a little busy. As where his hands which were running through flames as the held Lily Evans, the girl of every dream he had for the past 6 years and would continue to have until the day he dies, flush against him. His thumbs brushing against the soft silk that was her freckled cheeks.

"Oi, Potter," Lily whispered resting her forehead against his, their eyes locked together and grins too wide to measure adorning their faces , "go out with me."
