Never Say Goodbye

Never Say Goodbye

They made quite a pair, the student and the teacher. They moved fluidly, elegantly, looking more like a pair of dancers than having a deadly little spar.

The shorter of the two was holding a bo, while the other welded a sword. The bo was actually a metal staff, one that could be retracted quickly, and the sparks that flew between the two combatants showered the area with dancing motes.

All in all, it was beautiful.

Wufei sat in his office in the Preventers HQ, pondering his latest paperwork. Actually, he was pondering his late partner, who should have been there fifteen minutes ago.

If anyone who didn't know us would look at our relationship, his mind wandered, they would ask why we weren't married yet.

He wanted to cry, wishing things had been different, wishing that he could go back to change the events of that night.

Wishing he had not pulled the trigger.

Duo laughed hard at something Hilde had said, then stopped short. His breath caught he wrong way, and he sucked in, almost choking.

"Oh, Great Shinigami," he breathed, looking off in the distance, stunned.

Hilde was less than happy that Duo was ignoring her. They were sitting in an open-air café, people watching, and making fun of the strange way Earth people dressed.

"She's dead," Due whispered, and Hilde giggled.

"What? See an old girlfriend you didn't tell me about?" she asked, teasingly.

Duo just continued to stare, and wondered if he had lost his mind.

Relena Peacecraft had died seven years ago.

To be continued…
